I’m in Tenby watching the marathon. I’m being entertained by the police getting cross with drivers ignoring the road closed signs and the cones across the road.

Why do some drivers think these signs don’t apply to them?

We had one of our best days out ever in Tenby last August & it was due in no small part to the peace & quiet afforded by the lack of traffic. The parking for the day wasn't extortionate & a short walk from the main beach. It was just like being back in the fifties. Bliss.

The previous day we'd gone home early from the large coastal town we'd gone to as it was just noisy & dirty.

Get a grip, fellow motorists! Just follow the signs for the car-parks like we did!

    would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

They should confiscate their licences, they can't drive - follow/understand basic signs.

The drivers probably don't know that if they drive on a road that is closed, their insurance isn't valid, so an accident on a closed road will be very expensive.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

I didn't know that, is it something you've heard some time ago or just made it up?

Either way, it’s almost certainly wrong.

If a road is totally closed to both vehicles and the general public then this might be the case but as the road in question was being used by people running (or walking) a marathon, then the vehicle's insurers must still honour the policy.

This is because according to the RTA, it is a legal requirement for a motor vehicle that is being used on a road or other public place to have a minimum of 3rd party insurance.

A road is still a road. It doesn’t cease to be a road just because it is temporarily closed.

If it is temporarily closed to the public then as far as the Road Traffic Act is concerned, it no longer qualifies as a road.

Under which section of the Act?
