    Saturday 1pm

Yes I now understand from you that Saturday is OOH

I just thought that with any company you should always be told upfront about prices before you agree to anything. Maybe I’m wrong and that’s fine. Expensive mistake.

I always work the other way instead of relying on the trader, such as:

"Hi, I've locked myself out, how much will it cost to come out?"
"Ok thanks, how much would it cost to do x, y & z as well?"

I think you're going to have to accept the fact that you probably aren't going to get this money back.

Look on the bright side your problem was solved for only £66. Admittedly you solved it yourself by going through a window but I imagine anyone you had called out to fix this problem would have cost you more than £66

The disappointing experience has actually saved you money!

What are the laws surrounding ex-VAT pricing? Obviously with the OP it was verbal but still

I’m not sure how that’s relevant - most of the £500 will be the time to break into the old one (it sounds pretty tough!), a call out fee and out of hours rates on top too.
They’ll also charge a profit on the lock itself (as they should being a business).

I’m sorry OP, but naivety doesn’t make them conmen.

£66 call out fee for any tradesman isn't bad at all. Round here £75-90 is normal.

Not sure why tradespeople should charge a profit on materials they supply? Especially as they'll be paying less than normal retail prices in the first place.
