I called another locksmith company with positive reviews on google. They told me it would be at least £500 to replace my type of front door lock (I told them the type) and if I wanted them to come out, there’s a call out fee of £99.

I thanked them for telling me about the call out fee and the lady on the phone said I should always be told and never to accept a locksmith without this information and also to check their ID when they arrive.

I climbed up a ladder and in through a small window in the end.

Just curious, what ID should you be checking/accepting from a locksmith?
If I called a locksmith to come out, and a locksmith attended, it's a bit of a given isn't it?

Which means nothing at all. I would say move on. Some battles are worth fighting, this isn't one of them

Just for my learning, how would I have known 99.99% don’t charge extra during normal working hours Monday - Friday? Wouldn’t they tell you this? I’m not trying to be obstructive, I’m just curious. I have never called anyone out before.

E.g “Since it’s a Saturday, I’ll need to charge you xyz”

No offence, but I always thought it was common sense. If you called the locksmith out at 0100hrs in the morning, wouldn't you expect to be charged a call out fee?

You ask them what the price will be.
  • @powerful_rogue

Yes but I didn’t call out of hours

I asked what the price would be

The lady on the phone said “the price of a simple lock is £55 but when the locksmith gets to the door, he will have a look and then confirm the price”

    Then I said OK

    That was it

What day and time did you call?
  • @powerful_rogue

    Saturday 1pm

Yes I now understand from you that Saturday is OOH

I just thought that with any company you should always be told upfront about prices before you agree to anything. Maybe I’m wrong and that’s fine. Expensive mistake.
