4 previous owners

Options
Hi all.

I am looking at buying a Range Rover Evoque 2013. It is quite a high spec model but apparently it has had 4 previous owners. The salesman did say that the first might have been a pre-reg so it may have only had 3 proper owners but still.

Anyone see problems with this? It is the exact car that I'm looking for which I cant find anywhere else at the moment and part exchanging mine at a good price, I just worry about the owners thing.

Hard to say, has it got FSH, ideally dealer history, but it depends on cost, mileage and condition.

I'd rather have a vehicle with 3 previous owners that has been looked after versus one with 1 owner that didn't give a damn about it.

I had a car with 8 previous owners once and it was one of the best cars I ever owned. I had one with 1 previous owner that was the worst.

Edit - just saw you had posted the age - not a problem at that age, if each owner had it ~2 years which isn't unusual.

Range Rover Evoque being the main one.

Could be (probably is) a bag of nails which is why the frustrated owners keep chopping it in. Is it from a main dealer with a manufacturer backed warranty? If not proceed with maximum caution.

A few replies here, some not helpful.

At that age ask to see the history and then check recalls/ work done by dealers (get the sales person to do it and prove it).

As above, with any RangeRover, you absolutely must have genuine LandRover extended warranty, with no chance of a get out for them- the service history must be absolutely spot-on to mileage and time.

    Averages can be misleading.

6 years, 3 owners - 2+2+2 years, likely to be three people who got bored quickly.

6 years, 3 owners - 5 years, 6 months, 6 months, looks like a lemon that people are keen to move on.

I'd be cautious. Range Rovers are not the best for reliability (I speak as someone who has owned three), and when they go wrong it can be eye-wateringly expensive. Buy with a full dealer service history and massive, cast-iron warranty, but I wouldn't risk it otherwise.

When you come to try and get rid of it "sell it" in a years time it will have 5 previous owners.

Ensure you have good breakdown cover:rotfl:

  • Its very much a fashion car, so perhaps the owners just tired of it and fancied a change.

However its also an Evoque, so just as likely that it broke down a lot so the previous owners got rid.

Pays your money and take your chance, but I suggest steering clear unless you have some funds to pay for any repairs that might be needed. They can soon add up on cars like this.

Sorry I forgot I posted on here. Thanks for all of your replies.

    This is it...

It comes with 'THEIR' 3 month warranty on engine and gearbox.

It apparently does have full land rover history apart from the last one which was an independent 4x4 specialist garage for a gear box noise which turned out to be a transfer box which was replaced at £620, the normal service and new pads and discs at the back.

Nice car. 4 owners is nothing to worry about in my opinion, but everyone is different.

I have never had a problem with mine. Never broken down, needed extensive work like gear/transfer box replacement etc.

If you like it and it is the right car for you at the right price, buy it.
