  • At the end of the day whilst its an emotional subject your daughters illness doesnt change your rights here at all

I have resisted commenting on other parts of you post as it would get me banned.

But commenting on what I have quoted.......What has it got to do with "RIGHTS"? Do you people only ever ask for something you have the right to? Have you never asked for a favour because if the other party does it it will be done as a favour and not because right is on your side. Do you never do something for nothing, or do you always thing "why should I do that for nothing when the law would be on my side"

All the arguments against asking for the box to be moved have been along the lines of "virgin don't have to"

Jeesus, even big corporations do things that they don't have to. Some even welcome the chance as it's good for their public image.

I have seen big companies design features into their buildings to allow wildlife to continue living there. I've seen companies build towers next to a flour mill they wanted to turn into an art gallery, a year before starting work so the pigeons would have somewhere else to roost.

Why is it wrong for a person to want a big company to do a small thing in these circumstances?

As far as I can see the OP just hasn't spoken to the right people yet. But they are being attacked just for trying! What are you all going to do if Virgin say "yes, we'll move it for you"?

Spoke to my father (builder), the last drive he had put in a house he was doing up cost £600 off the council (Suffolk) for permission and dropping the kerb. Without a dropped kerb you have no 'right' to drive over the pavement onto your land.

That's odd, the legal sites I visited said to use the drive you must have permission to cross the pavement, but you don't have to have the kerb dropped. That is an extra that you may, or may not need or want.

None of the sites I visited said you must have the kerb dropped, they just said you need permission to cross the pavement AND you can pay to have the kerb dropped if you want.

    Ok
This is supposed to be money saving and a forum where we help each other out - the questions that have been asked and the comments put about this situation are totally out of line with the ethics here; do you think Martin would have ever said 'well, the banks told you about all the money they would charge when you opened the account - so it's your fault if you did so'?..it's the same here.

I can't believe this has resulted in so much abusive and downright rude behaviour - even asking about how long the daughter has left to live - totally inappropriate.

Hopefully that Virgin contact will come good and if not, feel free to IM me if I can help in any way - rather than asking the wider community and getting such a negative and abusive response.

Good luck with it, let us know how you get on and ignore all the people who have got their knickers in a twist on this thread.

Theres nothing wrong with you contacting virgin to see if they can sort something out for you, anyone in your position would do all they could to make thinge easier for your daughter.

I hope it works out for you.

For gods sake get a grip, I have not claimed to have any more knowledge that you or anyone else. I have not commented on the legalities of whether it should be moved, or even who should pay for it. I have simply put forward reasons why ASKING for it to be moved is not wrong.

It was you who said "it was there before your drive, why should it be moved" or words to that effect. Someone else implied that the OP was !!!!!! for wanting it to be moved simply because it was a pre-existing box.

I don't know if the company who put the box there needed planning permission, or if that planning permission means the box has to be in that exact place, or how much lee way there would be in moving it. I don't know if the council planning department would favour the Op or just wash their hands of the matter. I don't know how much it would cost to move it, or even if it is possible to move it.

But I DO KNOW that there is nothing wrong with asking if it can be moved.

The OP would not be in here asking about it if it wasn't important and people saying things like "it was there first, so wanting it moved is !!!!!!" or "it was there first, so why should it be moved" (which is what you said) does not help.

I didn't say I would flatten it myself, I said it would be flattened and I would have witnesses to prove it wasn't me.

I wouldn't hurt another person, or their personal property, but I would not hesitate to flatten a TV box if it made my daughters last days easier. Branson and his millions aren't worth a hair on her head to me.

Then again, this could be because I spent my life bringing up my kids not sitting in the council planning office.

Get past the fact that I dared to disagree with you and remember that we are talking about someone who is trying to make their daughter's life a bit easier.

We should be trying to help this person not attacking them for trying!

It seems that we both have taken the wrong meaning from posts - i never said it shouldn't be moved - i was pointing out that Virgin would be intitled to say no or say yes provided it was paid for. Yes, they may move it free of charge for good PR - i was pointing out that the op shouldn't expect it to be done for free.

I never said it was wrong to ask, nor did i ever attack any poster.

When you said you'd have it flattened i thought you meant you'd flatten it.

let's forget the bickering and see if we can come up with something constructive, eh?
