i didn't say there was anything wrong with asking Virgin - i simply pointed out that since the drive was built AFTER the box was installed then Virgin would be quite entitled to send the OP a bill for the works.
In that case forgive me, when you said
I took that as an "attack" on the OP for wanting it moved. And also thought that if you did not know why it should be moved you had not read the first post in the thread. However, if the box was installed prior to your drive being constructed and the box was causing no obstruction at the time it was installed, then why should it be moved? When i stated that the labourer was unlikely to be making a corporate decision for a global company you said "they were the only company representative at the time and they were representing the company"
I actually said
Meaning that the OP didn't raise any objections at the time because someone they took to be representing the company said it could be moved later. Obviously Virgin are going to ask why no objection was raised at the time the box was installed, and this is the reason why.Since they were the only company representative at the time and they were representing the company. Whether they have the authority to or not is another matter, but no objection was raised at the time of installation because a company representative said it could be moved at a later date.Isn't that what the person in the call centre at Sky was doing with you?
You solved your problem by talking to a supervisor and things started moving.
Why not advise the OP to speak to someone in another dept or their manager rather than change your opinion to attack other posters?
Because someone from Virgin has already PM'd the OP and offered to help. There's no point in telling anyone to contact someone when you have just read they have already done it.
I haven't changed my opinion, if it were me in that situation the box would be flattened and I'd have a dozen witnesses to swear it was done by a joyrider who just drove off. Then I'd claim it was battered anyway as many people use my drive to turn round and they don't notice the box, so it gets bumped quite often. Except this time the driver was going a little faster than most people do. I'd also point out that if they moved it a few feet to the side it would be unlikely to get hit again. And if you read back carefully - at no time did i ever refer to anyone, and especially not the OP as "!!!!!!" - that was someone else's post.
I didn't say it was you, I just referred to the person as "people".0 -
No drop kerb. we rely on the neighbours.

I think you need to resolve this as well.
When you get permission for the kerb to be dropped, you also get permission to cross over the public highway/verge to get onto your property.
Without this permission, then the box isn't obstructing your access at all .... as you have no right to access across the verge where the box is sited.
I think you might need three-way discussions between you, Virgin and the local authority.

Obviously you have superior knowledge in this field despite my many years of dealing with utility companies. And you obviously know more about what i meant than i did.
And you obviously operate outside the law if you'd flatten it yourself then claim it was a joyrider in an attempt to get the box moved.
Good luck to you.

[You also say your daughters condition is terminal, apologies for being insensitive but how long has she got left?
Any repositioning may be time consuming and if the answer to my previous condition is a short time you may be better off leaving it and getting past
At the end of the day whilst its an emotional subject your daughters illness doesnt change your rights here at all[/quote]
Longer than you think!!!!!! and yes it is insensetive. I am only asking for an act of kindness, if that's too much to ask, we must be living in very sad times. What ever the case may be it's in the hands of virgin now and not somebody like you who has the audacity to question HOW LONG HAS SHE GOT LEFT. Nobody can answer that question not even a healthy person.:eek:0 -
Spoke to my father (builder), the last drive he had put in a house he was doing up cost £600 off the council (Suffolk) for permission and dropping the kerb. Without a dropped kerb you have no 'right' to drive over the pavement onto your land. You will definetley need to involve council as well as Virgin. Can you not post a picture of your front boundary? - there's usually more than 1 solution to these sort of problems. From MSE Martin - Some General Tips On Holiday Home Organisations and Sales Meetings

Obviously you have superior knowledge in this field despite my many years of dealing with utility companies. And you obviously know more about what i meant than i did.
For gods sake get a grip, I have not claimed to have any more knowledge that you or anyone else. I have not commented on the legalities of whether it should be moved, or even who should pay for it. I have simply put forward reasons why ASKING for it to be moved is not wrong.
It was you who said "it was there before your drive, why should it be moved" or words to that effect. Someone else implied that the OP was !!!!!! for wanting it to be moved simply because it was a pre-existing box.
I don't know if the company who put the box there needed planning permission, or if that planning permission means the box has to be in that exact place, or how much lee way there would be in moving it. I don't know if the council planning department would favour the Op or just wash their hands of the matter. I don't know how much it would cost to move it, or even if it is possible to move it.
But I DO KNOW that there is nothing wrong with asking if it can be moved.
The OP would not be in here asking about it if it wasn't important and people saying things like "it was there first, so wanting it moved is !!!!!!" or "it was there first, so why should it be moved" (which is what you said) does not help. And you obviously operate outside the law if you'd flatten it yourself then claim it was a joyrider in an attempt to get the box moved.
Good luck to you.
I didn't say I would flatten it myself, I said it would be flattened and I would have witnesses to prove it wasn't me.
I wouldn't hurt another person, or their personal property, but I would not hesitate to flatten a TV box if it made my daughters last days easier. Branson and his millions aren't worth a hair on her head to me.
Then again, this could be because I spent my life bringing up my kids not sitting in the council planning office.
Get past the fact that I dared to disagree with you and remember that we are talking about someone who is trying to make their daughter's life a bit easier.
We should be trying to help this person not attacking them for trying!0
