Asked to VISIT A BRANCH!!

Just applied for a new HSBC Advance account which requires a minimum pay in. Had a letter asking me for evidence of income - no problem with that BUT I have to VISIT A BRANCH!!! How 20th Century is that. They are closing all their *****y branches. My nearest is a round trip of 41 miles......and I might have to make an appointment. Try finding a direct tel no for the local branch. Surely they could have enclosed an envelope for me to put the stuff in and send or let me scan it on email??

Ironically my main reason for using them (apart from the £175 bribe) was that they have an app that lets you take a photo of cheques that can then be paid in online.

OK thanks for letting us know.
  • Either go to the branch and do as they've asked or take your business elsewhere

Shame on the branch for wanting to verify who you are and 'making' you visit a branch, how tiresome...

How on earth did people manage their money before online banking I wonder.

WHAT AN ABSOLUTE OUTRAGE!!!!!!!! THIS IS TOTALLY WORTH SCREAMING ABOUT IN ALL CAPS ON AN INTERNET FORUM!!!!!!!!

If you don't like it, you don't have to bank with HSBC. There are plenty of other options.

HSBC are hardly the only bank that offers mobile cheque depositing. Nor do the others have limitations on the deposit amounts. Though your priority might lie with the £175.

I opened an a/c with them 2 or 3 years ago when there was a good incentive. Still have it for the 5% RS.

Luckily I have a local branch (walking distance) Staff very helpful & charming and got everything sorted then & there- none of this hanging around online/ on phone.
Might have been a different matter if I had had to travel to next town!- maybe would not have bothered..........

    And building societies too.

It seems to me that if you have to visit a branch in the OP's circumstances, you might as well decide to make a day of it and treat yourself to lunch out and a walk round the local park/ places of interest (but avoiding spending the whole of the freebie in the process...).:)
  • Out of curiosity does FD have the cheque imaging option? I haven’t seen it if so
