This government is truly F.U.B.A.R., and it's dragging the country down with it. The last person to leave turn off the light, at least you'll be saving the environment!

It is bad enough when I get shouted at because of incompetence in my own department.

    :rotfl:

    Know that feeling.

I think it goes deeper than child benefit info (but I am a great one for conspiracy theories!) HMRC lost tax forms I hand delivered to my local office in Milton Keynes which they then had to send on to Edinburgh - this happened in August and today was the first time they admitted to "a breakdown in our usual high standards of service". Mmm....

Unlike beauty, incompetance is very rarely skin-deep.

  • This has to be the greatest breach of the Data Protection Act that I've ever heard! Resignations? I expect to see massive fines (paid by individuals, not the tax-payer) and prison sentences! - as that's EXACTLY what the law would hand out (or at least claims) to individuals and companies who broke the law with such blatant disregard. Even transferring the data to a CD is, itself, not allowed.

And they're trying to convince us that it's perfectly reasonable, safe and in our best interests for them to store our medical and biometric data on ID cards and in databases too?? My bank account I can change... my DNA and fingerprints, on the other hand...

Not sure if its been mentioned but if anyone uses child names as passwords then your risk is greater so change passwords!!!!
  • Darling making his apologies saying it shouldn't of happened and that people entrust their information to Govt Depts blah blah, no I dont, I HAVE to give them this info by LAW:rolleyes:

And as for blaming some clerk for copying the data to disk and a m/c courier losing it, its not their fault by higher up, it should not have been physically possible to download the data in this way.

Alll very well saying you wont lose money, but that doesnt save the embarassment of having a transaction declined, or worse still being denied credit in 5 years time because someone has taken out a credit card in your name, maxed it and not repaid, this could effect peoples lifes in a big way, losing a house purchace for example

Finally this was not a mallicious lose of data, just wait till someone (external) does breach the systems

What pees me off the most that this government have quietly wanted to get rid of post offiices and made it almost impossible to have benefits paid any other way and now they have put our bank accounts at risk!

Yes, easy enough to change the number of your bank account, a touch more difficult to change your retinas...

The trouble is there is no point in changing your bank account details as you are only going to have to ring up the govt again and give the new bank details to the same people that mailed out the last lot to god only knows who.
