Breach of security - HM Revenue

Just a warning to people to keep an eye on bank accounts.. it is on the news this evening that HM Revenue and Customs have lost the personal details of 25 million customers who are in receipt of child benefit. It seems a disc was sent in the post which has gone astray. The information, if falls into wrong hands could put people at risk of ID fraud. It is saying the risk is increased if people use their child's date of birth etc as a pin code for banking.
Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time

Yes, easy enough to change the number of your bank account, a touch more difficult to change your retinas..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

I'm never going to have one of those id cards ...they are useless this government....I wish we could go back to the old days where we could pay all bills cash and had no need to have a bank account as wages were paid in cash...bring back the good old days when things were simpler0

But cash is too difficult to tax - so that'll never happen."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

I think it goes deeper than child benefit info (but I am a great one for conspiracy theories!) HMRC lost tax forms I hand delivered to my local office in Milton Keynes which they then had to send on to Edinburgh - this happened in August and today was the first time they admitted to "a breakdown in our usual high standards of service". Mmm....0

I am sure someone told me that TNT use "White Van Man", at least sometimes.
Whilst I am not on the list, I am concerned for the people who were on that CD. What concerns me more are the tales of fraud published on the web which involve the bank taking a long time to refund their money.0 -
Aaaargh they are expecting so many CB calls that virtually everyone in all the other government departments are being expected to field the calls too. We have been promised more infor and a script to do it so I will let you all know what it says when I get it. I am really expecting a bad day tomorrow! It is bad enough when I get shouted at because of incompetence in my own department.
Add to that, according to most MSE sites apparently JCP staff are the scum of the earth anyway!
God, I need a new job.
What has happened is so breathtakingly stupid that we are all shellshocked, and TBH we are used to routine incompetence. I totally agree about the ID cards, I am going to join the mass protest when it inevitably happens. Poll tax riot, anyone?!
I really do feel bad for anyone affected, just please don't phone up and scream at me tomorrow!0
