Thanks all for your advice. I will call them and see what they have to say. And no I'm sure it isn't blue film lol! It is beige instead of white but overall does make a large difference to the overall design and we have bought appliances etc which won't go with this new colour.

So for those of you following this thread my solicitor has said that there is nothing in the contract specifying this. If they wanted they could paint the walls pink and give me a green kitchen. I find that to be ridiculous.

Yet you signed the contract anyway. Who's fault is that?

Do I proclaim to be an expert in conveyancing as a first time buyer? Helpful advice would be appreciated not patronising comments. Many thanks.

Did you find your own solicitor, or go with the one recommended by the developer?

All the contract says regarding spec is “the outline sales specification which can be viewed at the site office for the development”. There is only 1 show home, and all flats are of the exact same spec, there was no choice. Show home kitchen white, actual kitchens beige.

Well, you did nothing wrong there, then, but of course it doesn't mean they'll be marvellous.

If you were only given an outline specification, it begs the question 'Where's the detailed one?' and if no one has asked about that, then maybe you haven't been best served.

I've never bought a new build, but I'd expect to nail the company down on specifics at some point prior to second fix.

Yes, but you seem to be a (relatively) sensible person :)

99% of new-build purchasers don't even think about that sort of thing and are happy putting up with whatever the trades have lots of in stock at the time.
