Show Home Specification

Options
Hi all,

Purchased an off plan flat. I’ve been sent pictures today of the build progress and I have noticed that the kitchen cabinets are a different colour than that of the show home. Is this acceptable as my contract says property is to be finished to the spec of the show home?

Thanks
Dan

If you have another expectations now would be a good time to get them checked over with your sales contact to avoid any further disappointment

How would the colour not be part of the Specification, now is the time to complain.

did you explain to "them" that your interpretation of the word specification means identical in every respect, including colour?

I agree that a change to something as fundamental as a kitchen colour would leave many people apoplectic, so you have every right to complain if your contract can be read in the way you want it to

it has little to do with "like the showhome" and everything to do with what your contract says, because colour should be one of the most obvious questions answered.

Imagine you already owned a house and ordered a new kitchen like one of those in the display at Howdens.

Wouldn't you be a tad annoyed when the Dove Grey units you thought you were getting turned out to be Ivory?

Everything hangs on the wording of the contract and whether a colour was chosen or simply implied, but regardless, if it were me, I'd be doing my best to change this.

Please read all of your contract, and tell us exactly what it says about the spec and variations to it. It will almost certainly give them some flexibility to make minor changes, rather than forcing them to build something identical in every way to the show house.

And look for any clauses that say what should happen if such a variation is made.

A few years ago, I went almost crazy arguing with a company, until I read the contract properly and discovered they'd broken their T&C in this respect. Suddenly, my problems were over.

Call them. If they're doing a run of homes, the little man might have a big box of one colour and a big box of another colour - and doesn't care which he fits where.

If you call, and say "I wanted the white, I see I've got the beige" they might say "I'll just go and get him to swap the doors over.

    It's worth a shot.

You will find that the spec of the doors will be the same, just a different colour. Was a colour choice given, if you are buying off plan then almost certainly you would of needed to confirm a colour.
