PAC code / iPhone / t-mobile help question!!!

Hi there,

Tempted by an iPhone, but currently with T-mobile, although I have now passed the 18month contract period.

If I phone up to cancel my contract, I obv have to give 30 days notice, can I get a PAC code there and then, or do I have to wait the 30 days? Just wondering how quickly a number can be ported over?!?

Thanks, Steve

  • Hi, my first post so hope it helps!

If the 18 month contract has passed I wouldn't have thought you would have to give 30 days' notice. My daughter is on U-fix 12 month contract with T-mobile which has also just finished. As I am the account holder I phoned t-mobile customer services to get a PAC code (just listen for the option). Everything was explained to me very clearly and the code was given to me there and then. If I understand it right I have 30 days in which to contact O2 and will be connected with them in about 5 days. If I don't use this code within 30 days my phone will carry on as normal but I could request a new code if needs be.

T-mobile were very helpful and tried to persuade me to stay but signal in the new house is very poor anyway. I have gone through this process before for myself and remember there being no problems. BUT remember to keep a note of all your numbers on your SIM as these will be wiped after a certain time.

Thats correct. If you cancel you have to give 30 days notice. The way around this is getting a PAC code because as soon as your number goes to your new network the contract with your old provider ends. So getting a PAC means your effectively canceling the contract but getting out of the 30 days notice.

Are you sure they won't charge for the 30 days?

You will be able to port your number out, but from what I understand, all this means is that you will be paying for a service that you won't be able to access.
Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.

When your number is ported out on the day your number goes to the new network that is the day your contract ends with your old provider. So you will get a final bill but only with charges up to the date the number switched. Its against some law to charge you for service when you havent got a number (ie no way of using the service).

I believe that is the case anyway. Ive ported out a few times and my final bill has usually only been a few £.

I'm not sure that's the case with all networks, i'm currently having trouble with orange re the 30 day rule so i'd be interested to find out more info about the laws which you mentioned.

    Thread here for anyone interested

I could be wrong ofcourse. But when I ported my number from BTMoble they kept billing me. I talked to trading standards who said that thats against the law to change you for a service you cant use because you dont have a number available to do anything. Hence why you have to pay off your contract before you get issued a PAC because providers have to let you off the contract when its used. While I only know from my experiences ive never been charged for the 30 days from using my PAC the final bill only lists charged upto the day when the number was ported over.
