Barclays Partner Finance - No longer accept credit card for payment - and not informed me.

in Credit cards
Contacted their Indian call-centre today to make payment for the final amount of my vehicle loan. I intended to make the final payment using my credit card (Mastercard), and my final statement dated 9th June clearly stated that payment using a Mastercard is acceptable.
However, when I confirmed payment by Mastercard, I was informed by their customer services representative that since the beginning of June, Barclays are no longer accept credit cards as payment.
Shame on Barclays. I received no prior notification or advance warning from Barclays regarding a change in payment terms. Indeed, I found the response from their customer services representative extremely disappointing as they confirmed Barclays decided not to advise customers on this change due to the cost and resources required to issue individual letters to each of their customers, and further, Barclays were still 'updating' their formal letterheads with the new payment terms.
Based on the above, my position is simple, I think. Barclays issued me with a final balance and the letter confirmed the payment methods that are accepted, which includes a credit card. Therefore it is my view that they must honour this method of payment that is referenced on their letter. Am I right?? Is it not the case that they cannot change the rules of payment without providing advance notice to customers and insist we (the customer) subscribe to them?
Complaint already submitted to Barclays and am awaiting their response.
However any advice on the above, and how to deal with these rascals, would be greatly appreciated.

They can accept or refuse any payment type.0

Pick your battles, probably best to find a payment method that they will accept rather than engage in a battle with them and run the risk of a missed payment being recorded. It is a poor show that they don't keep customers updated but I wouldn't rely on your complaints making them change their mind.
From a practical point of view would applying for something like a Curve card work in this situation where you would then use your preferred card to make the payment through Curve. I'm not sure that this is strictly within their T&Cs but others seem to have done it, although it may be recorded by your card provider as a cash advance.0 -
The letter says Mastercard is accepted, not that a Credit Card is accepted. They will accept Mastercard, just their Debit Cards not their Credit Cards.0

Assuming that the final statement clearly mentions that credit card payments are accepted (and/or you have made credit card payments in the past), your logic is sound.
As an FCA regulated body, they have to "Treat Customers Fairly" which in this case they haven't, imho. You have done the right thing by complaining formally and should take it to the FOS if they don't come up with an acceptable resolution.
Bear in mind that the resolution is unlikely to be an option to pay by cc but a small compensation for distress and inconvenience caused.
Please see here for a similar upheld case on the FOS database and here .ianmcg1973 wrote: »I intended to make the final payment using my credit card (Mastercard), and my final statement dated 9th June clearly stated that payment using a Mastercard is acceptable.

None of the cards I have offer this.
The OP needs a money transfer card - transfer funds into his bank account and pay from there.0 -
Ahh yeah, sorry ... I just knew there was an option in my Card app that says "Transfers", I just assumed (having never looked in there) that you could transfer anywhere ... I didn't realise it was to transfer from another card to this one.
Ignore that post above0 -

You can with a select few cards - they allow transfers to bank accounts, and will ask for sortcode/account number, but I'd expect you'd need to transfer the cash to your own bank first, then use it to pay whatever.
These are money transfers, and attract different fees/interest to normal BTs and other transactions, if offered at all. MBNA are generally the best for this, they have cards with offers specifically for MTs.0
