It's not too late, but your position is significantly weaker, because you have missed the speeding warning emails and the cancellation notification. It won't reflect favourably with the insurers or the FOS that you missed these.

It could take many weeks to have a complaint resolved by your insurer and more if you refer to the FOS. I'm assuming you need to use your car, so the priority will have to be getting new cover. You might just have to swallow the premium increase for now.

Another issue you have (and please don’t admit to or deny this on here) but if they cancelled on 21st June and you saw the email today, you carried on driving between those two dates thinking you had cover. The insurer may make the assumption you have been driving without insurance cover for that period, giving them another reason not to reinstate your policy.

You either need to find alternative cover or sorn the car and store it off road until you have sorted alternative cover. If you don't you will receive a fine from Dvla under the continuous insurance rules.

What you really must not do is continue driving the car or parking it on the road until you have insurance.

I'm not sure where to look for insurance as comparethemarket is giving me prices £2000 higher than what I usually pay.

Online off the peg companies won't quote with this in your history

Try a local broker ( not Swinton) and Google for car insurance for cancelled policy to find specialist companies who can get you covered

As advised keep your car off the road and sorn it until you get a new policy

I have new info from General Accidents about my speeding which I think might be important? It looks like all 3 instances of speeding were recorded on the A13 right close to where the road goes from 30mph to 50mph. On all 3 occasions I was travelling at 39mph.

I think the reason why the black box recorded it as speeding is because when I see the 50mph sign I start to speed up so that I don't collide with any of the cars merging that are already going at 50mph. Is it not sensible to slowly approach at least 40 just a few yards before the 50mph begins?

Do you think this makes good grounds for an appeal or something I could take further? Because 39mph is exactly between 30 and 50 and I only go that speed about 2 seconds before I join the 50mph section. If that makes sense? Idk I'm so stressed sorry if I'm not being clear.

Also sorry if I'm unloading a lot of this on you guys, I know it's not fair but idk what to do. 90% of my worry is what my mum would think, I don't even care about the money because I'm happy to pay it off and work for it, but I just don't want my mum to be disappointed as she's been really stressed herself lately...

I have to ask if that is a serious question?

If so, how did you pass your test?

No it's not the sensible thing to do, especially with a black box.

Your case looks flimsier by the minute.

There was a similar thread last month where the OP claimed to have established(?) that the black box was faulty or was identifying "wrong" speed limits. The OP said their insurer accepted it was faulty but the insurance was still cancelled. They got new insurance but didn't explain how or where.

Not sure how that helps OP who now freely admits regularly doing 39 in a 30

I'm a parent to 19y and 17y old new drivers.

You really need to get your head round what speeding is ASAP as you will also be banned from driving before you know it. All your offences would attract speeding penalties in law and not just from your black box. Mobile speed traps love to set up where speed limits change.

Assuming your question was serious which is a bit hard to believe.

Not sure this should need clarifying to anybody who has passed their test but here you go.

You must not exceed the speed limit for the road you are on for any reason.

When the limit increases do not accelerate until all of your car is beyond the new posted limit sign.

When moving to a reduced speed limit ensure you reduce your speed to below the new limit before you pass the limit sign.

Insurers have clearly got you bang to rights as by your own admission you regularly speed deliberately. As well as sorting out insurance a few refresher leasons or an advanced driving course could be very beneficial.

Where exactly does it say not to accelerate until all of your vehicle has passed the sign? I have never seen that guidance before (and I've read a fair amount on this).

Techinically as soon as the front of my vehicle has passed the sign I am now "in" the new limit and may accelerate up to it.

OP, unfortunately the law is clear that you shouldn't acelerate into a higher speed limit while in the lower one. While you may feel this is safer/okay because of other drivers joining speeds and others doing the higher speed already, that doesn't make it legal. When driving with a black box it's a really poor decision as you have now found out. You should maintain the speed limit and be prepared to move into another lane (dual carridgeway/motorway) or potentially slow to let other vehicles join.

Without a black box you run the same risk as everyone around you of being caught speeding by the police and it's your choice to take that risk knowing that you could lose your license as you are breaking the law.

All you can try and do is grovel to your insurance company who may be generous and restore the policy or go and seek a new insurer very quickly. Don't be tempted to drive without insurance (you still have that black box fitted too!).

You will likely need to declare you have had insurance cancelled now too, when applying with the next insurer.

Lastly perhaps consider taking some Advanced training via RoADAR or the IAM to further improve your driving skills. This may help offset some of the increase in premium.
