RBS Data Protection Breach

I currently have an open complaint with RBS in regards to payments that went missing from my cash ISA account, this part of the complaint has now been resolved, however , I believe they may have breached data protection policies.
They called me yesterday in regards to my complaint and they did not confirm any security questions to confirm my identity so they could have been speaking to anyone!
The advisor also said my account number and sort code on the call.
Is this a data protection breach? And will I be entitled to compensation for this?
The complaint was very stressful and this has just added to this.
Thanks in advance

There hasn't been a breach, but you could argue their vetting process could be stronger.
You can claim compensation for your losses, but unfortunately you don't appear to have suffered any.
Ask for a £20 goodwill gesture perhaps.0 -
I think you're clutching at straws there - arguably what they did could theoretically have led to a data protection breach, but it didn't and so you've suffered no loss and have no reasonable basis on which to claim any compensation. No harm in mentioning it to them though, as it does sound like their procedures could do with tightening up.
Using your real name (even a misspelt version of it) on a public forum is far more likely to cause an unnecessary breach of personal data....0 -
Compensation for what in particular
Token amount if data breaches confirmed after you complain
Otherwise nothing for "stress"Ex forum ambassador

So someone didn't ask you security questions and this has somehow added to your stress.
What sheltered lives some people lead.0 -
Well there was potential for a data protection breach and considering my money went missing from my account I believe the staff have been very incompetent in dealing with my accounts so far.
If someone else had answered my phone then this would have been a breach,
I am awaiting a call to clarify what will happen going forward.0 -
I'd ask them to say sorry and expect nothing else.0

If you answered the phone and someone claiming to be from your bank asked you for your bank security information would you be happy to reveal it?0 -

I would expect to give them my details, date of birth, first line of address , etc so they could clarify they were speaking to the right person.0
