First Holiday Abroad

Options
Hi,

At the grand age of 26 I'm getting my first ever passport (which is a huge step for me as I have anxiety).

We are looking at flying from East Midlands in the second week of September.

Can anyone recommend which airlines are good to use? I've heard JET2 are one of the best.

Also, we are looking at going to Majorca as this is only 2.5 hours flight. Can anyone recommend any hotels in Majorca?

We are a couple who are 24 & 26, my other half wouldn't be interested in the party scene and we both like doing a bit of sight seeing.

Thanks,

Why not book through a travel agent for your first holiday? TUI, Thomas Cook etc.

Means flights, hotel, transfer is all sorted for you. You just need to pack, get euros and go enjoy yourself :)

I think that most of the airlines are pretty similar for short journeys, but I have seen a lot of complaints about Jet 2 (never flown them myself). Many people complain about Ryanair, but their flights are usually on time.

For your first holiday definitely book. Is a travel agent so that it is ABTA protected (although you will still get this protection if you booked a package online through agents) I’ve travelled with tui, Jet2 and Thomas cook. I quiet like TUI but have had a lovely holiday with Jet2 also.

Is there a particular part of Majorca that interests you? Would be hard to recommend hotels without some ideas of areas.

Congratulations on taking the big step, I’m sure you are going to have a lovely time

Go to the TUI website and you can punch in all variables to match your specification.

Spain is a good choice for a first holiday abroad, the Balearics and mainland Costas are very popular - remember there may be tourist tax to add in some areas, certainly in Mallorca.

Trip Advisor is a decent source to seek opinions on specific hotels - beware dwelling on negative reviews unless there are a large number/percentage - some folks complain about trivia.

Jet2 are good in my experience , however their prices appear to be higher than TUI.

In my opinion Jet 2 beat Tui and Ryanair hands down.

Planes have more comfortable seats, staff are polite and welcoming and I have never had a problem with them.

As well as online they do sell through independent travel agents on the high street but I have never had a problem with online bookings.

    Where to stay I would look at mainland Spain, why not try the Costa Brava, pick a resort with a railway station and you can easily travel to Barcelona and Girona ( great for Game of Thrones fans.}
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

& OP, follow the links here, to buy your travel insurance on the same day that you make your holiday booking.
Then look here for how to sort out your travel funds.
& here for your EMA parking.

I like Jet2 I find they have comfy seats. More comfortable than TUI for short haul.

A word of warning though travelling can become very addictive and seriously damage your wallet.
