Ethernet Cable?

Hi I am looking at getting longer Ethernet Cable for the house but not sure on all the Cat meanings.

I will need cable from my router to the TV box and wifi extender plug
Then upstairs my sons room. wifi plug extender to his Tv box and X box.
The max lengh will be 3Mtrs
What do you recommend?

At 3 metres it won't make any difference at all.




Cat 5, Cat5e, Cat6 will all work.


Cat 5 is the worst, Cat 6 is the best.


If you want quite a few cables, buy one long piece of cable and then cut the lengths yourself, will save some money.

Briefly Cat5E (often abbreviated to just Cat5) is a standard network cable, Cat6 is a better quality cable optimised for gigabit, Cat6a is better again and will do 10 gig. Cat5E would do the job but I've suggested Cat6 since the difference is pence.

I've used them many times without issue. Decent quality products at rock bottom prices. Not sure how a typo relates to trust.

Me too, bought loads of cables and similar from them, never had a problem.

I've no connection with them, but kenable have been my goto source for cables for some years. My last purchase was outdoor spec Cat 6 ethenet cable for a long run in adverse conditions. The product that arrived was excellent.

The first one is a flat cable while the second is a normal round one. In general flat cables will have less shielding and be more susceptible to interference, which could affect speed. In practice it'll be fine to use on a short run at home and easier if you're going under carpet etc.
