Talktalk contract ended

Talktalk charged me £40 for my last bill. £30 was broadband and £10 for calls boost (this is just the phone calls package). I had a contract for £18.95 broadband and it included calls. It was for 18 months but it has ended. So I logged onto my account and clicked to join another 18 month contract.
Last time, I used Plusnet. You can subscribe to the broadband online.
If I want to join Plusnet (or another broadband provider) do I have to contact Taktalk to cancel?

Yes you have to cancel as you will now be under a rolling contract, same as when a mobile phone contract ends or your rental tenancy fixed term ends.

Read your original terms and that will tell you what notice you need to give :)
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

No, you don't (unless you are considering migrating to Virgin Media). See "Gaining provider led process" here:

However, there may be an early termination charge to pay because your post suggests that you have started a new contract with Talktalk ("So I logged onto my account and clicked to join another 18 month contract.").

I will phone Talktalk before 20 days.
  • As above, if you have agreed to a new 18 month contract as an existing customer, check very carefully as I don't think there is any cooling off period.

You may well be liable to early termination charges if you wish to leave.

As above this reads as OP has agreed to a new contract .
But OP is very unclear as to when this happened .
Beware moving and having to pay the remaining months of the contract .
