Most other EU countries manage to train enough doctors without a reliance on vast numbers of immigrants.
That may be true for some countries, but not all:

Here's something that might cheer you up a bit Sea Shell if it's true. In my late teens and early twenties I seemed to get a cold every week. My mates used to wind me up about it when we went out for a pint and I was looking like Rudolph virtually every time.
I eventually went to the docs just to make sure there wasn't an underlying problem and he told me there are a certain number of viruses that give you a cold and when you have had one you won't get it again. Might well be true because in the last 30 years or so I have hardly ever had a cold. So you can console yourself that at least you have ticked one off the list!!0 -
A persistant cough that lasts three weeks is a potential emergency. One of the possible causes is a heart problem and you would likely be sent for a chest X-ray to check. I was 8 years ago. It turned out to be non-urgent but the check was needed.
It is also a sign of many other serious diseases incl Cancer among others. If it is over 3 weeks, get an emergency appt.0 -

From that chart all the big countries in the EU have a much lower percentage of immigrant doctors than the UK's 26.9%.
France 10.4%, Italy 0.8%, Spain 9.4%, Germany 10.3%, Poland 1.8%. For these larger countries comprising 60% of the EU by population they are better than 90% self-sufficient in doctors which just emphasises how shamefully poor the UK record is.0 -
Mild day for Park Run today. First morning this week that I have really seen daylight as in work by 7am in an office without natural light. Definitely depressing the dark mornings and nights. 18 more paydays, less if a Redundancy offer before then. Roll on retirement.
Hope you are feeling better Seashell.Money SPENDING Expert0 -
In our retirement-transition we have been busy this week, on Friday a lunch in the Village, for which we were part of the delivery team, and yesterday we had a coffee and craft morning, for which I made and donated soap, hand-scrub, cakes, biscuits, jams, jellies, mincemeat and crystal tree decorations. We plan some more fun things in the New Year but just now it is a 30-year Ta-Da list that is taking our time.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

and the far higher pay in general. Some European doctors are flying in for a long weekend locum shift for £3-5,000 and they do a dam good job.
But really the NHS needs a good kick up the ar*e - if they spent less time whinging and more time training Brits to be Doctors and Nurses we'd all be better off.0 -
