I think that it is indeed going to push some people over the edge.
We were lucky in switching to a 2 year fix back in October. I don't even want to think about what it will jump to when that expires.
I did try to get family to take action but I had similar lack of successI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I too fixed my gas price as soon as I heard there may be trouble ahead. I also drastically cut back on usage (at least during the times when I was single : )
I hear there is some £400 pound being given to my supplier on my behalf by the government in October. I'm not sure how this is supposed to work though? If my gas bill is usually less than £400 a year does that mean that I won't get a bill at all?Think first of your goal, then make it happen!0 -
The £400 gets paid to your electricity account. So the credit will sit there until used up, however long that takes.barnstar2077 said:I too fixed my gas price as soon as I heard there may be trouble ahead. I also drastically cut back on usage (at least during the times when I was single : )

You can't "move it" to gas, but you should (hopefully) be able to manipulate your payments to compensate, if you're not dual fuel.
ETA - the Energy board is a hive of information on all this. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)1 -
Oh, my mistake, I just assumed it was for gas as that is what all the focus has been on for a while. I will check out that board, cheers! (If I have the... energy.)Sea_Shell said:

It's to help with "domestic energy" and not everyone is on gas.barnstar2077 said:

We're having smart water meters fitted today, which will give half hourly readings available via our on line account.
We're already on a meter (read annual by them) but this will give more data to obsess over!!!

Won't you get a little monitor gismo? We got one when they came to fit ours (electricity only, because the gas meter was too far away to communicate). We can see instantaneous useages (red, orange, green) and hourly / daily etc costs (until it goes offline, which it does frequently
