  • My nuts have shrunk this week, but not by much, around 0.6 %, we will be okay so long as Vladimir doesnt start squeezing them.

Overall, including cash and pensions our portfolio is about 60% equities.

Rathbones is our "last pot" as far as drawdown is concerned.

I'll see what our overall % splits are next week.

We've had the Rathbones since 2018, when DH cashed in his sole US company sharesave stock...to "de-risk" and bring it "in house" as it were.

We've added chunks to it since.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Seashell. Just out of interest, in the event of a serious market downturn, would you consider part time work? I think from reading your thread im correct in thinking your in your early 50s.

...although not originally planned, I do the odd bit of "bank work" to cover staff holidays and sickness at my old company and find it quite theraputic! Also provides some un-budgeted income that I can spend "on a whim" without feelijg guilty!

I think the most serious downturn was 1929. Withdrawal rates should cater for that eventuality.  If the markets ended up worse than that then we are all screwed anyway.

TBH if push really came to shove, yes, I would (and so would DH).     What's the alternative...starve?

That's assuming there would be any jobs available in the economic circumstances that would lead to us needing jobs!!  ;)

Since retiring, I have once or twice had fleeting thought about ringing my old boss for some hours....but then I had a lie down and the feeling passed.  B)
I can't think of any circumstances where you would need to return to work. Even if all your pot was in cash and losing money to inflation, I think with your level of spend you would still have more than enough to keep you going until your DB and State Pensions kick in.  :)

Just looking at my Rathbones spreadsheet.

Since we've had that fund we have invested (moved) about £110k of our pot into it, and it's currently worth £133k.

None of the contributions were "new" money.   It's been either other shares cashed in, profit moved from 7IM, or from maturing cash or other pension funds (TFLS).

Why would you ring your old boss?  Presumably you retired from a job that you did not like?
In the event of a major downturn with your spending, any part time work would suffice.

Because I didn't mind my old job and left on good terms.   They were sad to see me go...so it's the obvious place to ask if any hours going first.

You're not the first person to wonder why I walked away from a decent (but already part time) job!!

    TBH, I don't miss it.
