To me part time work, doing something you enjoy would be a very positive move into partial retirement. It would provide structure to the week, some social intetaction and help finances. After a lifetime at the coal face, I would struggle going into full retirement. Each to their own i guess.2

Funny you should say that....as that is exactly what we DID do....Just much earlier than many people can afford to. A gentle slide down the greasy pole!!!!
We both did work full time for many years (well, a few), then I moved to part time about 20 years ago, including a 3 yr break, went and did something different (away from the coal-face), before finally finishing.
DH had a high stress (high paid) job, which he left to have a short break, and then went back to work for a few years in a different role, within the same industry (but as customer rather than provider), before calling it a day.
As for helping the finances...despite what I may say in jest....I think we'll be fine. Working, just to add a few more £££ to the pot when the pot is already sufficient (in our opinion)...nah....i'll pass. But, like to you say, each to their own.
If you love working, carry on...... but in the immortal words of George Michael "Do, you, enjoy what you do, if not, just stop, don't stay there and rot"
Have a nice day
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)7 -
You're not the first person to wonder why I walked away from a decent (but already part time) job!!My response has been “so you think I should work until I can’t any more?” Some people will choose that, or have to work, but if you don’t then it’s inevitable that you’ll leave at some point. Happy days if it’s with good memories!
The most difficult part of my retirement planning, bar none, was recognising that more isn’t always better.4 -
Should we now factor the cost of a nuclear bunker into our retirement plans?0

You may have read in another thread of mine, but we've just fixed our fuel tariff at the Eon Next V12, as our current cheap fix expires mid April.
Cost (on actual usage) going from £690, to £1700. April cap would be about £1490. So we've taken a punt.
Heaven only knows what the October cap's going to be, that's if it's not reviewed earlier than then. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

Retired 1st July 2021.
This is not investment advice.
Your money may go "down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... I got all tricked up and came up to this thing, lookin' so fire hot, a twenty out of ten..."0
