Well we really broke the bank on holiday, with a total spend of £55.
Fish & Chips - £15
Coffee and cake - £9.80
Parking - £7.50
Fridge Magnet - £2
Sandwiches and other ready meals - £21
The weather wasn't quite warm enough for us to sit and eat out (other than our F&C out the wrapper on the sea front), so we'd taken a couple of meals worth of "eat in" with us. Didn't use the emergency Pasta and Sauce though...we went to a Waitrose and raided the yummy isle instead!! We did take some other snacks with us from home.
To be fair, it wasn't really going to be a "doing" holiday this time, more of a chill out, change of scenery, fresh air and walking trip. I'd rather wait until masks are no longer a thing, before going "in" places.
In other news, the month end figures continue at a pace...
DC Pensions - £359,330
S&S ISAs - £189,483
Locked Cash - £59,668
Ready Cash - £7,475
12 month to date spends - £12,424
My island has no covid spreading at the moment, but i still wore a mask at tesco friday. The OH didnt, but he's a bit stubborn. But i used to wipe down airline seats and grocery trolleys before the pandemic. i'm an epidemiologist.3 -
I hope we simply don’t see society returning to pre-pandemic normal. We really are a nation of unhygienic people.
I doing my numbers again with a view to dropping my hours by a third in anticipation of retiring next April.Mortgage free

£7.50 0n parking that is just over the top!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually it was £9.50!!!
DH reminded me that W-S-M was £6 for 4 hours, not £4.
Plus £2 for 2 hours in Wells and £1.50 for 2 hours in Glastonbury.
In other news, I've just booked by first swimming session since October. I'm so looking forward to getting back in the water. Better go and re-pack my swim bag...How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)1 -
Last of the big spenders, you may have to review your financial plan Seashell !!!
I have been the gym and swimming today, loved it. Not a great swimmer but now doing 400 metres per visit. Though the best part for me is after my shower lying on the sun lounger around the pool at the end drying off reading my book/ phone. Pure bliss. Closest I’ll get to my normal abroad sun lounger this year.

They'd still obviously inherit everything less IHT, not just the bit over the NRB.
So for them, surely 60% of something is better than 100% of nothing, even if the taxman does get his pound of flesh!
Have you considered possible care costs?1 -

Well, I'm not even 50 yet, but yes, they're factored in somewhat. We have a mortgage free house that we could downsize from, or sell, if we're left on our own. Like a lot of people, we'd rather be able to stay at home for as long as possible, and money for adaptations, or home help, shouldn't be a problem, but yes, good quality care in a home could run into ££££££ per year.
As for leaving no inheritance, on second death (which is the part of my post that you've quoted) then that would be hard cheese if there was nothing left. We have no direct decedents, so if the N&Ns get anything, it will be a bonus. I just hope they don't spend their lives waiting for their "Rich Aunt" to pop her clogs!!
We might gift them something "up front", depending on how the figures look in, say, 10 years from now. But for now, we're not planning on giving any big chunks away. Like you allude too, we might need it all!!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)2 -
Busy week.
Went swimming. Was so lovely to be back in the water. Did about 45 mins / 1300 metres. My shoulders ache a bit!!
Booked another trip, for Monday, for another 4 nights. Norfolk.
New leather recliner armchairs came, so have spent the morning assembling them....so my plan is to now fall asleep in one for the afternoon. zzzzzHow's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)7 -
We just booked flights to Greece for July. If we can't go for any reason, we can change the (Ryanair) flights free. They were very cheap anyway and we are lucky to have free accomodation via family there whenever we want it. Can't wait for a bit of sun
.
We also have a trip to Yorkshire next month, which is going to cost about twice as much as the Greece one.3 -
Ryanair are definitely ones of those companies who show their true worth when things go wrong.2

To be fair to Ryanair, I've flown with them lots and never had a problem.1
