It's time to start digging up those Squirrelled Nuts!!!!

Woah, this thread seems to have veered off again...But heck, I'll add my twopenneth, it's my thread!!
There are no Apple devises in our house. We have his and hers Moto G5's which do the job. No they are not "sexy", but who cares. My laptop is an Acer and is 8 years old, our TV is a non-smart Panasonic and is 11 years old (it is HD at least).
When they break, we will replace them. (this boomin Epson printer might end up that way - will do battle again today!!)
IMO Apple products are the equivalent of designer clothes, and you can guess how much we spend on them! But as I've said before, what others choose to spend their money on is none of my business.
They are the IT equivalent of Marmite and Aldi!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)4 -
This all started because I mentioned that I have the "Money DB" app on my phone for keeping track of monthly spending. That was supposed to be me being helpful in explaining how useful the app is. I certainly didn't mean to spark controversy or start a p*ssing contest about how cheap and old our tech gear is, or a 1980s'esq "My ZX Spectrum 48K is better than your Commodore 64" argument. (My C64 WAS the best though!)I feel now that I have to compensate for my bad taste in Apple products by also stating that I have an Android-powered Asus Nexus 7 from 2013, which I use every day for a particular app, and the high-resolution screen is excellent. My personal PC is a Windows 10-powered MSI Ghost GS60 that I purchased 5 years ago, for gaming, general everyday use and posting to MSE! My microwave oven is a Panasonic which I purchased when I moved into the first house I ever bought just over 19 years ago - go for stainless steel interior folks they are well worth it. My washing machine is a Zanussi, which I purchased back in 2005; it developed a faulty inlet valve a few years ago and I repaired it. My house cost me £145000 back in 2007 and we have no mortgage and is plenty for me thank you.I mentioned earlier that my iPhone is provided by my work. Well, I work in the public sector, so that means that since 2007 my iPhone upgrades AND my monthly mobile phone bill have been paid for by the great British General public. So thank you fred246 for your contribution in keeping my outgoings low!If you want to be rich, live like you're poor; if you want to be poor, live like you're rich.7

I work in IT and just cannot get on with Apple devices.
My wife has an Ipad, Ipod, and work I-Phone and the I just do not find the interface intuitive at all. Never tried one of their PCs so can't comment on them other than to say the graphics quality always looks fantastic when I have seen friends using theirs.
Having said that I think the underlying reason is I don't like Apps and prefer to acess a site via a browser, using a mouse and not a touchscreen or trackpad. Proper Dinosaur LoL.1 -
...and i think we shall park that discussion now.
Happy Friday everyone
(although to be honest i usually have no clue what day of the week it is these days!)How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)1 -
I think buying an iPhone would double your annual expenditure Seashell. Best not discuss it.2

The bottom line is whether you are thrifty or a spender we all end up in the same cemetery. Difference being some people will have gold handles on their box.1

I think mainly now, people buy whatever phone suits their needs. But that doesn't mean a person who doesn't understand their needs makes a pompous statement why they're wrong and only this person can know everything.
Give it a break. I am operating system / phone type / game system / car type agnostic. Buy whatever you like if it meets your needs. I wouldn't dream of telling someone they're wrong, it's a bit of assumption to think they spent no time at all considering what they want and why.

Again - buy whatever TF you want - I don't care!
Right, back to the fascinating story of digging up nuts!

Some of my nuts that I buried are going bananas...
It's our Rathbones Global Opportunities Inst Acc.
It got to a previous (unit price) high of £2.86, back in mid-February
Then dropped down to £2.18 mid-March
And has now made a remarkable recovery and it now at £3.07!!
The lowest its ever been (since we've held them) is Jan 19 when they were at £2.04
I'm assuming that the Fund Managers are "doing what it says on the tin" and going after investments in sectors/companies that they believe will have great "opportunities" in the future, in a post-CV world.

Morning all.
I have successfully saved a few more ££ this week, as our printer went on the wonk, and wouldn't print black. After much googling (as the head cleaning hadn't worked) and watching YouTube videos, I found a product that was supposed to do the job (and had good reviews). Bottles of stuff, syringes etc. Well for £10 I thought i'd give it a go and low and behold, tis fixed!!!
Wasn't too messy either, as I'd read a top-tip about using pantie liners under the print head to absorb all the solution (most just say kitchen roll), which worked brilliantly!!
I've also decided to get to grips with the scanner element, as I've been rubbish at going "paper-free" in our house and seem to collect paper (receipts/reports/statements etc). So I'm going to actively try and remember to scan more, keep less!
I now have a large shredding pile instead!!
Not much to report in other financial news, other than DH's car tax is due end of the month (£165) and our Gas chap is coming to service the boiler. I also have a HAIRDRESSERS appointment for the end of the month, praise the lord!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)3 -
Boiler servicing is an interesting question. The guy who fitted our Worcester Bosch was raving about them. "Fabulous boilers. Go on and on year after years. I've got one myself .I never service it. Doesn't need it. Just keeps going." I told him he wasn't supposed to say that and it took him a while to realize what I was saying. There was another conversation in the gym with some gas fitters. They had a small company but one of the men was upsetting the customers. When servicing boilers he was in and out of the house in seconds. Some customers had complained. The other two were saying how you have to ask the customer a few questions and pretend to be interested and mess around for a bit to make the customer think it was worthwhile. British Gas used to service boilers but they didn't want to do all the tasks set out in the manual so they called it a safety check instead. I guess those who live in rented homes are safer because they have to have an annual safety check while the homeowners have all the explosions and deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning.0
