I recently travelled all the way to Sheffield with DD to retrieve her Uni belongings. The excitement was immense. Added bonus of a very average KFC lunch....
To temper the excitement, I saw a lovely rat behind their bins in the yard as I ferried boxes along. Won’t miss that luxury accommodation, I’m sure!We have a holiday cottage that we let out. 9 bookings by end of Feb....all cancelled in March, but bookings slowly now restarting: one on 4th July, so we have to travel to it to make it “covid-safe”: for example, we will remove all books, create two boxes with some toys, games, dvds and books in each: that way we will provide guests with a set untouched for a week.
Cleaning will be more thorough than usual: disinfectant on all cupboard and door handles is not something that would normally be done every week!Does still worry me a bit....
We often get multi-generational families staying: it sleeps 6 and has a downstairs bedroom that suits grandparents, so I do wonder if we will get a full July/Aug this year.
For our part, we are holding off any trips this summer....maybe days up to Derbyshire for a long walk later in summer. If we don’t get bookings in August, perhaps we will go and use it (I can work from home as easily there as I can here!)Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!2 -

So far I reckon we've saved at least £140 since lockdown. Wife's hair untouched, still looks fine to me. I just use a ebay trimmer, and will carry on when barbers reopen. Can't persuade the wife to Diy tho.
I pay for my own haircuts out of my own "pocket money", it's not really a household expense. But I did buy some clippers. If my partner cuts my hair another 8 times it will have covered its cost in haircuts...at least that's how she's trying to persuade me to let her have a go at my hair again after the first time!

We really want to start doing some days out, somewhere, anywhere!!! (I did look at posting on the UK travel board but its been closed) Where has anyone else been, since we've been allowed to venture further than the supermarket? How have you found it "out there"?Garden center...just wanted to brighten up our front garden a little, bought containers, lobelia, marigolds etc. Also socially distanced music "concert" in the park last weekend. Going again on Sunday. If you want to be rich, live like you're poor; if you want to be poor, live like you're rich.0 -

I have been shopping every 10 days and find I have to think about driving, speed limits etc each time so I would suggest a local practice drive before venturing any further - if stopped you can always claim you were testing out your eyesight....I think....2

My best day out so far has been to a really nice, local Garden Centre where we got a take away coffee and drank it as we wandered around. Funny how things took for granted seem such a treat. Walk wise we are really lucky as live near coastal Pine woods with loads of different tracks and can access the beach at various secluded parts, where you might see a few people in the distance. Though not many as it’s a good hours walk from car parks etc. Our local beach car park opens again today so imagine it will get very busy as the suns has just come out . Can’t be bothered to travel far at moment, though if I did I would be setting off really early before the rush starts. We are thinking of walking around a few big, local parks. My thoughts from what I have read is that the transmission rate for Covid outdoors is negligible so I have no concerns re walking past someone on a path etc.I have made 3 masks to go shopping, though my husband prefers to wear a buff. Just had delivered today 50 masks from Amazon for £6.99. Handy to keep in car etc, though I know not very environmentally friendly etc. They were a surprisingly good fit.Money SPENDING Expert1

I've lost track a bit, but we don't need a reason to drive now, do we?
We can drive anywhere for pleasure now surely, if shops, parks, zoos etc are now open.
We'd only go about max hour to start with, so the coast is out, and would avoid busy times.
I've been googling some country parks and reservoirs, which appear to be reopening, including toilets!!!
Never really been in to garden centres TBH.
Not for this week though as it's going to be hot hot hot 🔥🔥🔥 and when it's like that I'd rather stay home anyway.
Plenty of shade, sunloungers and a fridge full of cold beverages.
By next week all the rules will have changed again anyway... probably. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)2 -

If you're heading for Derbyshire cfw, Chatsworth House gardens are open, although you currently have to book a ticket (online). Plenty of space for socially distanced walking.1 -
So far I have made a couple of trips to the garden centre for very specific items rather than a browse. Food is still being delivered. The dogs can be walked somewhere nice from the front door - Uni campus that used to belong to the Marquis of Blandford so he didn't have schlepp all the way to Daddy's house at Blenheim if he wanted to escape London.
It has been a sobering weekend - on Saturday morning I found out that a seemingly fit and healthy uni friend had died of a heart attack at 53, then that evening a lunatic stabbed several people in a nearby park (killing 3).I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans
