Just had a look at Settings /Update and Security and there's a message there that says that my version of win 10 is nearing the end of support and inviting me to update. Note - update, not upgrade.
I'm using win 10 Home version 1803 which apparently becomes unsupported on 12th Nov this year. See here:

Will updating mean I start to pay? I can't find any info on that.

No, it won't.0

Windows 10 updates are free. You can upgrade to the latest May update at some point from Windows Update or you can go to the website and get it now.0

Aww my 1703 was unsupported from last year. Will it stop trying to force unwanted updates onto me?
AV side still updates, thats the only thing that I allow to update and thats done manually.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Thanks everyone but I really need to make sure everyone understands what I'm talking about here. For example, I have no idea what "You can upgrade to the latest May update...." means, in the context of my question. I believe an update is a change within a particular version of software. Whereas an upgrade is from one version to another - e.g. from Win 8 to Win 10.
My OS is Home 1803 and I have the latest build (KB4023057) downloaded and installed on 22/06/2019.
I am being told that 1803 will become unsupported on 12th Nov 2019 and I am being encouraged to download an update, not an upgrade.
If such an update is free, why do I have to download it? Why does it not simply download as normal. Why am I being given a choice if not to make some money from me? Why am I even being asked.0 -
Because some people like to whine about updates automatically downloading so Microsoft decided to pander to them.0

As above you are now given the choice to say yes or no .
I have downloaded and installed that update twice FREE .
Millions have done exactly the same since mid April .
Update/ Upgrade MS stopped win 7 win 8 win 9 etc .
Win 10 is the new OS that updates no longer win 11 12 etc .Just latest Win 10 .0 -
OK, thanks folks. I get it.0

Problems then restore your backup .0
