In the future I would recommend not going directly to the o2 shop as their prices are nuts (if you want to stay with o2 you can purchase their contracts elsewhere cheaper, nothing about your account would change - just my two cents).

The Y6 2019 is decent spec for a 'budget' handset but as you took it out on contract there's not a lot you can do to get them to swap it for a different phone unless they do it out of goodwill, which is not massively likely. You could sell it and put the cash money towards a reasonable budget phone with a big battery life, like the Moto G7 Power (approx 159) and put your contract sim into that. It's not as 'current' a design as the Y6 but the performance is good.

If you choose to sell your phone you need to remove your Google account from it and do a factory data reset to wipe all of your personal info so someone else can use it. To the best of my knowledge the phone belongs to you, check your contract t&cs but unless you're in some kind of lease I can't imagine o2 would be expecting it back.

Thank you for your reply, no they wont want it back, if i pay up what i will owe at the end of this contract, which i believe is £103, i am just worried if i sell it before paying up, and what i get for the phone pay the £103, that the new owner could not use it as it would be still registered to me
I will take your advice and not go to the o2 shop again, it was only that i am with o2 that i went
I still have my old samsung that i could use for now,

When it was suggested that i upgrade i asked for a Samsung, and was told i wouldnt get one now for under £500, probably meant from them, i usually buy from Carphone warehose

I don't think you having bought it would affect anyone else's ability to use the device, providing you'd removed all your data from it :) Might be worth checking if it's locked to o2 though as this could affect the resale value - although most Android phones are unlocked I think.

That's really sad that they said you couldn't get a Samsung for under that price... There's a whole new suite of Samsung A-series phones which have been released in the last couple of months (A10, A20E, A40, A50, A70) that represent really good value for money and should have come out similarly priced on contract if you'd picked one of the first two models listed. In fact Samsung had a cashback offer on a few of these phones running through May/June as well where you could get a bit of money as a rebate when you bought one.

I'd go to a different store in the future as you said... (Carphone as you mentioned can be a good middle man as they sell o2, but are cheaper than the actual o2 stores themselves).

Might be worth sending a message to o2's customer relations team to explain the experience you had in store, even if nothing comes of it - their staff shouldn't be deliberately misleading customers as to the pricing.
