HMRC can't provide full 5 year work checkable history

My new job wants to be provide this. I have been working for several security companies since 2014 but none of them show up in my work history when I spoke to HMRC. They said they would send me the letter anyway as my new job wants this. I did at least 3-4 days a week over the last 5 years and have provided the new company with these details when I applied. If they ask why there is a gap how do I explain this to them?

Why do you / they want this from HMRC?

Any time i've been asked for this sort of thing, its employment dates and contact names spanning the five years, not anything from HMRC or P60s.

It's not HMRCs job to do this.... you are meant to keep your copy contracts and pay slips

  • If you have access to your person tax account you can print out confirmation from there however if that is incorrect than that could cause issues.

I would contact the employer and give them what you have and ask if they can check by you providing dates for the missing ones with contact details and they might do it this way.

You certainly wont be the first and wont be the last, its best to just approach them and let them decide how they want to proceed.

5 years checkable employment history to me is a list of company names, addresses, from and to dates of employment and the contact numbers for the HR departments

Not a pups chance I'd be involving HMRC, p60s, payslips.
  • The thing is HMRC do provide them if you need them.

If the companies didn't give P60s and don't show up on HMRC I would be worried if the employers were legitimate, and checking up on NI contributions and pension entitlement.

I always thought 5 year history was names and addresses also but I gave them this when I applied yet they are asking for a HMRC letter which shows nothing like I said. should I give them my employers number and Adress to get them to confirm?
