I wrote to Clydesdale bank and supplied them with all the information I had (Name addresses and date of birth etc) They have found my accounts but have written to tell me that they are "unable to determine" if I had PPI or not. As I do not have anything that proves otherwise should I just drop it now?

thanks for any advice

If neither of you have any evidence of PPI, there's nothing more you need to do.
  • Do the bank not have any obligation to keep records of who they sold PPI to?

No. They're not permitted to retain data indefinitely. Only the customer has that right.
  • They have an obligation to only hold data for a limited period of time. The retention periods of each firm will differ but should be available on their website

If you had loans with Clydesdale in the early 1990’s then you will need to ask them for a full transaction history to see if
PPI was included. Their electronic systems only go back to 1995, anything before that is held in microfiche either as transaction lists or copies of credit card statements. Send them a DSAR.
  • I received a letter from them today Saying they note from their records that I have not made a formal complaint. What do they mean?

What you should probably do is go to their website and on there you will find information about PPI. There is an information request and a complaint section, it will be worth having a read and submitting one or the other.

They are inviting you to formally conclude your complaint. Clearly, you'd need some evidence of your own to pursue this any further...
