First Direct withdrawing 'limited access' online banking

The nationwide announcement is not absolutely clear but the way I think it works is that if you log on to your account on the desktop you get pop up from the app basically saying ' is it you' which you can then say yes to by either typing in your pin or using your fingerprint - a little bit like how Google does it when you log on to a new device
I don't think you need to use an actual card reader as such if they do it this way unless you want to of course
That is the way they should all the rest of course i.e. if you're logging in on the desktop and if you also have the app installed then you get a pop up from the app saying is it you0 -
It gets worse with FD. My account is a joint account. I have limited access banking and my wife has full access via the SecureKey. It turns out that when the limited access is switched off I must have my own SecureKey! So we'll have two of the stupid devices floating around in the drawer. These buffoons need to find out what is meant by good customer service. As can be seen from eskbanker's list, HSBC/FD are by far the most awkward provider when it comes to the new regulations. I wonder how many people will join FD because of SecureKey, and how many people will leave as a result of it?
Which is the best bank to transfer to - all things considered including switching bonus (I've already got accounts with BOS and Nationwide)?

The secure key can be the digital secure key which is part of the mobile banking app on your phone. No other device needed.0

It's hardly surprising that banks have interpreted the new regulations in different ways and adopted varying approaches - the technical standards were published in March 2018, 18 months ahead of implementation in September 2019, but with less than three months left to go, the EBA have last week issued an opinion document about what's deemed acceptable!
https://eba.europa.eu/documents/10180/2622242/EBA+Opinion+on+SCA+elements+under+PSD2+.pdf
Interesting that the EBA have managed to rule out the only system which works reliably for me - a card with printed codes.0 -
I'm with FD. Been a happy camper for the last 15 years but I struggle with the smart card. It's far to small and has no backlight so really struggling to read it. I don't fancy having to carry it everywhere I go. Totally screwed if you loose it.::A0

Checking the MSE article about best bank accounts too much effort for you? Hope you can find one that can live up to your high standards.
Already reviewed it, and other sources as well, but it's always useful to get the views of contributors here. Often, they can provide additional details and advice. However, you're clearly not here to contribute in that way. Like so may other posters on this forum, your primary objective is to scoff and finger-wag at anyone who dares to disagree with your point-of-view, or is at odds with you world view. It's pretty sickening, if you don't mind me saying so.0 -

Odd to read this only because I'd to call FD this morning because I've arthritis in my fingers and struggling now with the size of the wee card I need to use to let me access their internet banking on my desktop.
Was told there is a larger size and one's going to be winging it's way to me in the next few days. If I'd read your post earlier I'd have asked if it is backlit. Might be worth giving them a bell though.0 -

They claim this is because of the new regulations. BS! The new regulations state nothing of the sort. BOS have implemented a system that registers your PC as a trusted device. Marcus send a OTP to your email. First Direct though - they are going backwards, forcing you to carry something with you at all times if you want to access online banking via a PC. I wonder how much fraud there's been via limited access banking? Not very much I'd guess. I might kick them into touch; bloody morons.0
