It is more convenient to keep it in standby and have everything where it is ready for me to go back to than to have to boot and open all the software from fresh.
The only other alternative would be hibernation but that uses a lot of SSD space which I do not want to allocate. It's slower too.
I used to think that.
I now havew a startup script (DOS batch file) that starts all the programs I need as soon as I log in (it's a work Windows 10 desktop that gets restarted every night).
I've also set up my Chrome startup pages so that they open as defualt as well.
Happy to share the batch file if anyone is interested.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Change which apps run automatically at startup in Windows 100 -
I've heard that it's not good for the pc not to shut it down for a while0

Here's another way:
Change which apps run automatically at startup in Windows 10
I've just had a look at that but I don't get the options in Settings. It's probably becuase it's a work machine and fairly locked down.
When I get round to installing Windows 10 at home, I'll try and remember about your link.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

You can set your web browser to open multiple pages on startup.0

If you have a windows pc, best to switch it off every night to free the memory and get the updates. If you have a linux machine best to leave it running. Most breakdowns will happen at startup.0

I don't shut down every night, and have done the same for years. If I notice things slowing down I will shut down and then reboot, (not restart as that doesn't do a cold start). On my PC, Windows will tell me if it wants to do an update and I will schedule that for a time when it's convenient for me.0

Good luck with that. I find the updates install better when I leave it on and set a 5am install stuff point. You howver are either confused or drunk! (or left the download updates to the default ridiculous time when you want all the speed you can get!)0
