I've already given examples where selling up could result in homelessness or bankruptcy or both, a few posts above. There are also situations where there is the lesser of evils. I can also think of a lot of other examples of why it's not possible to sell, as I'm sure you can if you put your thinking cap on! I won't go into the details on my own personal situation, I'm sorry. I posted some stories in jest, and also find it quite therapeutic- I didn't intend it to end up in speculation about my situation... and I'm sorry I don't intend to go into details online about personal topics, especially as it might relate to other peoples' health, and may not be my place to. You're welcome to believe I'm talking nonsense if you wish- given our experiences with lodgers, I wish I were exaggerating! With that said we have had some wonderful ones. Wish everyone the best :)

We are aware there aren't many reasons other than money and companionship to necessitate having a lodger, its quite clear you are not doing it as a form of philanthropy.

But can I say this, when I started having a lodger I moaned and complained daily about every little thing they did and didn't do. The lodger didn't do things my way. The lodger didn't see what I saw. The lodger didn't care the way I cared about MY HOUSE!

One day met a friend for coffee and as I sat down my friend said words to the effect "I dont want to hear about your lodger today unless its funny, you are becoming so negative moaning for hours about him". I took it on board, stopped being negative, started to note all these funny things/experiences with my lodgers. This in turn enabled me to relax, be more tolerant and start appreciating the differences of the various personalities that came to live with us.

Share some humour in your Lodger/landlord situation and ease off with the negativity when you write. It can be just as therapeutic.

Still think you need a professional accountant /experience landlord to sit with you and see why your lodger is costing you money! Maybe put your quarterly costs here so that we can peruse it and suggest cuts to your expenditure.
