Can data provider refuse to answer a CRA query?

As per the title.
I queried Experian in regards and old Lending Stream ("LS") account which I believe has the wrong Default date. It should drop off on 03/2020, however, Experian has it as 11/2020. I hope anyone can understand how frustrating it may be to have negative stuff longer than necessary on your credit files.
Data provider ("LS") seems not want to confirm with Experian the correctness of my datat which they themselves provided, however, for me to contact them instead....???
Please have a read through the below and let me know what you all think.
This is Experians reply from today:
"I am writing in regard to your recent query with:
*LENDING STREAM LTD Account dated 06/01/2014.
They've told us that you should contact them directly about this matter.
LENDING STREAM LTD have stated that - "Please request the customer for the query ticket number with us, if the customer claims to have contacted us earlier on this case for an immediate response". Their contact details are:"
My reply to Experian:
"Hello Experian, Lending Stream is asking for me to contact them only if I am claiming to have contacted them before and have a query ticket number. This is not true in this case and or any circumstance. Why Lending Steam cannot confirm the validity of the data directly to you as they are the data provider? If the correctness of the data cannot be confirmed, I then request it for it to be removed all together. This is my right under the consumer rights act 2015."

It seems they want to check why you believe the default date is wrong.
I'd get in touch with them. It's the easiest way to resolve it.0 -
The CRA will always go to the lender to confirm any dates/changes before it can make them
So you may as well just go straight to the lender anyway to resolve the matter0 -
Thanks for the reply.
However, if LS was 100% sure of their correctness, then they would have replied to Experian "Yes Experian, data we provided is correct".
LS seems to be in doubt here and want me to provide evidence and collect more data on me which they do not have from the look of things. I wish to exploit this to get it removed all together from my file.
I want to be ruthless to them as much as possible since I've had a really rough time dealing with them years back. Contacting them is the last thing I would want. Few years back, I was the one chasing them for settlement figures of my debt and then once I paid up, took me another 7 months of chasing for them to actually update my credit file as "Satisfied".
Getting the CRA involved seemed to help speed things up, if anyone considers 7 months not fast enough.

I think if you choose not to contact them, you can probably expect the data will stay as it is.
Principles are fine, but they often don't get you the result you want.0 -
The CRA`s only report the information that is given to them.
As others have said above, if they are showing incorrect data, take it up with the creditor concerned, its the only way to resolve it.
You may remember them, i can guarentee they wont remember you.

Totally agreed, I don't blame Experian in any way here. I only see fair to make them work in order to make sure the data they hold and make millions on is correct. Correct me if I'm wrong please, but isn't that their legal duty?0 -
Why would they remove the detault altogether just because you had a bad relationship with them?
If what they are reporting is accurate then there's no grounds for it to be removed0 -

No - their duty is to report what lenders tell them.
It's not Experian's job to contact every lender and query if what they are being asked to report is correct - that's down the lender to make sure it's correct when submitting information0 -

Apologies for misleading. Meant suppress it, not remove it. Then the entire default is not visible to any potential
or current lenders searching your file. This is what happens when you query data with the CRA and they do not receive a response. In this case, the data provider is not confirming the correctness of it. Which is already grounds for above mentioned. It's not Experian's job to contact every lender and query if what they are being asked to report is correct
No, I agree it isn't. However, it is their job when you say an item is incorrect.0 -
