Would an employers liability policy cover someone for a recreational sport accident?

It's highly unlikely, but it might. If the employer had arranged/was running the event or expected the employee to attend it as part of their role then the Employers Liability could apply.

It only covers the Employers negligence though.

Doesn't look like the employer could be regarded as negligent in this case though, but there isn't enough detail from the OP to say for sure.

I would have thought that if you were to get money off anyone it would be the person at fault which is the person who tripped you up.
If you had a accident when driving to your company Christmas do would you try and get money off the company or the other drivers insurance.

Im not an expert on football, but just because someone was tripped it doesn’t mean there was fault, in fact it would have to be proven to be malicious or negligent for there to be liability.

There are a whole host of different liabilities and insurances being discussed here.

I am not convinced there is either liability or insurance in place for this event.
