No you didn't.
You were told in almost ALL the replies to claim directly from the 3rd party's insurance company but it seems you just ignored all the advice people offered and did what you wanted to (the wrong thing).

I had a similar claim and the other party was with Direct Line, they delayed bullied and were generally a nightmare in getting them to pay out. I calculate that I am thousands out of pocket and I still have the car off the road.
I should have gone via an AM company much as I dislike them !0
