Hi, am 17 years old and I was mugged on an afternoon by 4 guys who asked for my bank card and the pin and for all my bank account details, I felt threatened and scared so I did what they asked me to do, one of them wentry off with my bank but then came back, this was going for about 3 to 4 hours, I did not know they were attempting fraud or money laudering on my account howevery they didn't know my account was under 19's account, the day after i went to the bank explainin the situation and they said that they will close my account and give me a cifas marker
Am wondering if anyone can advice on what to do as I have been reading that it takes 6 years to come off but am truly innocent

It may be a marker to advise you have been a victim of fraud, not that you are a fraudster. It is not a bad thing and helps protect you.0

They said that I didn't have enough proof that I didn't do so i don't know what to do I haven't been to the police because thsee guy threatened me0
-
Contact CIFAS to check what marker has been applied against you0
-
I haven't been to the police
You must report the incident to the police, as soon as you are no longer being threatened.
This is an understandable requirement on the part of the banks, because they don't have the power to investigate crimes of extortion like this, while the police do.0 -
Yh I get what u mean, so what do I do in the mean time?0
-
Report it to the police immediately - they should give you a crime reference number, which you can then pass on to the bank.0

You need to go to the police. or at least phone action fraud and get a CRN - your bank may need this before they investigate it, if frightened of consequences explain this to the police too. They can also refer you to victim support
The longer you leave it the more it will look like you were part of the scheme. So how do you know it was 3-4 hours, were you detained for that length of time whilst they used your bank or when you reported it to your bank is that what they said? Either way all the information needs giving to the police ASAP.0 -
Without a police report the bank is unlikely to believe you, which will mean the CIFAS report stating and you possibly being frozen out of mainstream banking, borrowing, and parts of the job market for years to come.
If it did happen as you say then you must report it to the police which is a critical step in the bank accepting that you a victim not a fraudster.0 -

How much money did they take from your account?
You say this went on for 3-4 hours, where were you exactly? In a public place?
What exactly were these 3 people doing to you in these 3-4 hours whilst you were waiting for the 4th guy to come back?
Why did you wait until the day after to contact the bank? You could have called them the same day.
Why did you not even go straight to the police after it happened?
From an outside perspective, I'm sorry but your story sounds very shady and I'm not surprised the bank have placed a CIFAS marker as it seems like you were a willing participant in the crime.
These are the CIFAS categories:
0 - Protective Registration - Recorded at the request of the person named.
1 - False Identity Fraud - Use of a false name with an address.
2 - Victim of Impersonation - Use, by another person, of this name and/or address.
3 - Application Fraud (Facility Granted) - Use of name reasonably believed to be genuine, but with one or more material falsehoods in personal details or other relevant information -; the facility was granted.
4 - Application Fraud (Facility Refused) - Use of a name reasonably believed to be genuine, but with one or more material falsehoods in personal details or other relevant information -; the facility was refused.
5 - Conversion - Conversion (disposal or sale) of goods (to which the hirer/buyer does not have title) under a hire purchase, conditional sale, contract hire, leasing or rental agreement.
6 - First Party Fraud - Opening an account or other facility for a fraudulent purpose, or the fraudulent misuse of an account or facility.
7 - Aiding & Abetting - Aiding, abetting or assisting, or conspiring with, another or others to fraudulently procure credit, or other facilities, or hire products or services.
8 - Insurance Claims Fraud - The making of a claim(s) under one or more insurance policy (ies) with one or more material falsehoods or by presenting a false or forged document.
My guess is the bank probably marked you as a Cat6.
If your tale is true then you need to speak to the police ASAP, get a crime reference number, then write to CIFAS and ask what category marker you have been given, then write to the bank with the crime reference number and ask them to change the marker from a Cat6 to Cat0 protective registration.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards.
