Can someone tell me if this is normal, my wifi signal keeps dropping and get about one to two bars if lucky, yet the BT wifi with fon shows as 4 bars....never used this -just wondering why it is so strong and if this is the reason my wifi has started to drop and totally disconnect.

Been having the problem since they tried selling me Wi-Fi in every room for x amount every month0

2.4 or 5 GHz ? My 5 GHz signal quality depends on where I am in the house..0

I haven't got BT fon on my hub6; is it a home hub? Should have 2 connections 2.5 and 5 (as already said).my wifi signal keeps dropping and get about one to two bars if lucky, yet the BT wifi with fon shows as 4 bars
Check you haven't got any forgotten about wifi boosters plugged in...which may be clouding the issue.0 -

It is a Bt Home hub 6 and says secured network profile is for home only says set for 2.4 and channel 11, not sure if that tells anyone anything - as I type still 1 bar or half moon on home hub abd 4 on BT wifi with fon
I don't have any booster - thinking about an extender if persists0 -
How often do u reboot the hub,do a speedtest before and after.
Unplug hub for 2 mins then reboot.0 -
Wifi
Postition try turning
Raise hub the higher the better
Postition away from a wall and radiators.
Use channel 1, 6,or 11 with least users .
You can turn Fon off via your settings .
HH6 has an excellent wifi signal .0 -
There might be several causes so try to eliminate them.
As has been mentioned metal objects close to the hub can upset the transmission paths. Try moving the hub to another position (even a fraction of a metre can make a difference and also rotating it. You mught benefit from another person watching your signal at the time.
If your wifi device is portable try positioning it right next to the hub. You should get full signal and that and fon should be about the same. Then try various positions around your property. As you increase distance from your hub the signal level will drop. Unless through several walls (especially thick stonework or passed metalic objects you should still get a decent signal up to about 10 metres. Slight repositioning of your device can have a significant effect on signal level.
If tablet or a laptop try downloading a wifi signal monitor app such as Wifianalyser. Very simple to use. Can be used for the above checks for more accurate results! Have a look at a graphical display of the signals in your vicinity (there could be lots). You should see your hub mentioned (currently channel 11, you tell us). Ses what signal level it is. See if there are other signals on the same channel (they will cause problems) and see if there are channels with no signals (listed above) or with signal levels lower than yours. If so go into router and min and change it's wifi channel. They are often set to automatic but sometimes fixing it manually works better.
All those are basics to try for starters and ignore faults that are less likely.0 -
If it proves useful to anyone, my recent wifi experience:
I recently moved my desktop (built in wifi card) to an upstairs bedroom converted to an office, ethernet connection impractical. Speed tests using my smartphone held next to the pc showed 36 down but despite fiddling with pc settings couldn't get pc download speeds above 3 mbps. I then found if simply turned the router (on shelf under the stairs) through 90 deg speed immediately went up to 20 or so. I then installed a spare Netgear WNA3100 dongle to the pc and speed went up to 37, which is fine. Vodafone fibre router which seems to sync at a steady 39 mbps, channel selection set to automatic.0 -
Thank you for all your suggestions, just to say they is no problem with my speed, either wifi or ethernet. But found out today I not receiving incoming calls, this happened last week then seemed to rectify it's self - but totally off today plus no idea when it went out, so engineer out Wed and we also mentioned that the wifi signal had also weakened, but not sure if the two are connected.
I have tried walking around to get a better signal and it is weird, at the moment it is 4 bars and I am sitting in my usual place, yesterday it was 1 bar and wifi dropped and even disconnected several times, this morning it was low.
I will look to downloading the app if nothing comes from engineer and seeing what signal those around me are getting.0 -
The wifi signal is independent of internet status. Have you said how far away your usual place is from router? (number of long steps is a good start and how many walls -irrespective of material- do you walk past).0
