SKY mobile - problems with a Motorola G Play

Just taken out a new contract with SKY mobile a few days ago and all set up. Yesterday trying to get on the internet away from home and my broadband connection that works well, and all I got was 'No internet'. Waited a day, tried again this morning - same result.

I need to have the internet accessible all the time when I'm out. The guy through whom I bought it from on one of these SKY mobile units in shopping centres was as mystified as I was, and couldn't help.

I'm not very tech savvy and I think all the settings are OK; the SKY guy would have said if not.

Any ideas please?

Have you turned on Data or can you use Wi-Fi when away from home, for example BT customers can use BT Wi-Fi away from home.

I switched from giffgaff and with them I could access the internet purely from the phone without finding any Wi-Fi to latch on to - in town, out shopping, miles away from home! I thought you could do that with all phones and providers?

    Confused .
(trying to get on the internet away from home and my broadband connection that works)
Reads as you are trying to use your home connection .
turn wifi off turn mobile data off ,reboot phone and turn mobile data back on .
Presume your Sky mobile contract includes data .

With giffgaff I never interfered with the wi-fi and mobile data settings and always got to where I wanted to be. As I understand it any use at home using one's broadband contract costs nothing; using it away from that facility comes out of the data in your contract?

I suppose my question is why is it different with SKY mobile?

    Depends upon

One Internet on a mobile comes from one of two sources .
Mobile Data that is data from your mobile network via sim card /#Turn Mobile Data on #

    or
Wifi from a free or paid for source .# Turn Wifi on #

I have giffgaff and pay for mobile data from them when not at home .
At home i have BT broadband and use the wifi from the router .
Out and about i can use free wifi hotspots in some places or i can use paid for wifi in others .

You need to check that you have the correct APN settings in your Motorola G4, as it is probably still trying to connect to Giffgaff internet, which obviously will not be possible via Sky mobile. If you do not have a Sky Mobile APN set up you will need to create one and select it to be used.

Set up Internet - Motorola Moto G4 Play

    Select Apps.
    Scroll to and select Settings.
    Select More.
    Select Mobile networks.
    Select Access point names.
    Select the Menu button.
    Name: Sky Mobile Internet
    APN: mobile.sky
    Select New APN.
    save and RESTART phone.
    DONE

That is amazing! How on earth have I never ever paid for Wi-Fi and we're talking 10 years plus!

That is very helpful but the screen of my phone (top left) shows SKY and following the route you gave me the APN is set to SKY.

That simply shows that you are connected to the Sky mobile network, nothing more.

It should not be set to SKY.

For the APN to work it must be configured correctly (to the letter) to allow your phone to to gain access to the internet gateway for your data.

You have been informed that it needs to be called Sky Mobile Internet and the APN set to mobile.sky

Only when the APN is configured correctly will it give you access to the internet!
