Dump flights?

How about MSE being the first organisation to stop all promotion of flying, such as the "Cheap Flights" pages, on grounds of air travel's disproportionate contribution to climate change?

Just as soon as all the watermelons follow their own policies to their logical conclusion and stop breathing precious air.0

Do remember that the food system contributes about ten times as much to global warming as does aviation (30 per cent versus 3 per cent of GHG emissions). So maybe we should start with cheap food; airfreighted food from the other side of the world; food grown with fertiliser...0 -
Oh yay, the climate change moaners have found the forum!
Flights are a fact of life, no way are MSE going to cut out a chunk of their revenue to please a tiny minority.
I’d be quite annoyed as the cheap flights section has proven to be very useful0 -

Well, as the world will end in 12 years time (sic) mostly because darling Greta (or anyone else really)won't challenge the real polluters of USA, China and India but would rather pick on soft targets like the UK, who are actually doing something, I'd like to make the most of my last days on this planet by seeing as much of it as I possibly can.
So bring on promoting "cheap flights" as we're all doomed anyway.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Not going to happen I'm afraid.
Id rather action was taken against the bigger polluters but that might be wishful thinking.0 -
My theory is that flying more will force the airlines to find cheaper ways of dealing with those flights, they are already bringing in lighter airframes, who knows what progress is in the pipelines. Fairly sure that it won't be that long before the flights are the equivalent of a nice long car journey pollution-wise.
Equally, people need holidays, and a lot of us choose to have those holidays overseas, if people don't have holidays they will be more stressed, there will be more trouble around because people can't relax as they choose to.
No, I am one of the many, many people that look at the amount we are doing and then realise China have just opened another coal electricity station, my OH went out to China not so long ago, the face masks they wear? They really need to be upgraded, the air is foul.
What we really should be doing is finding a way to clean the air, you can already filter air coming out of the large industrial chimneys, there simply has to be more that can be done.
Of course, it could also be that the pollutants being sent into the air should actually be sent higher into the air in order to reflect the sun and slow down global warming, but that would be against what is now a massive "green" industry. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

I really really hope that you are not involved in making policy.
And just for the record: while China does still run coal-fired power stations the Chinese have done more than us in other ways to reduce their carbon footprint. (And my shares in Chinese renewable energy companies have made a tidy profit for me, thank you.)
Air pollution may be dangerous and unpleasant, but it is generally not related to global warming, which in the medium term is a good deal more dangerous.0 -

Don't be silly ! If you don't want to fly, that's OK, but I do and so do millions of other people. There are far more polluters in the world than airlines.0 -

You expect a 16 year old girl to be the one who finally gets Trump, Putin and Xi to behave like responsible adults? :rotfl:
There do need to be less flights happening overall but ordinary folk having one holiday a year aren’t destroying the planet. If the wealthiest bankers, business people etc. stopped jetting about so much and used tech like video conferencing and remote working we could all still enjoy a trip abroad every year relatively guilt free.0
