Capital One Complaints

When my son came out of prison 4 years ago he was unable to have a bank account or credit card (amongst other things) in his name. I had a bank account that I was no longer using and a Capital One credit card. I added his name to both and we've managed perfectly until now.

He has suddenly stopped paying the card balance and stopped talking to me over something rather petty. He is the only one who uses it. This isn't really a big problem as I know I will get it back eventually. My problem is Capital One. I've paid enough to get the account back on track but would like to stop the cards as I don't want any usable balance that my son could spend and I end up paying even more whilst we sort ourselves out.

I've tried ringing them but get transferred to a call centre that is definitely not British. With all the will in the world I can't understand a word the person on the other end is saying. I've tried their complaints procedure but get this message every time "Oops! Something went wrong. Please click the Submit Complaint button to try again".

I could write to them but this will take much longer and in the meantime the interest will be growing.

Anyone got any other ideas.

Keep ringing them. It's inconceivable you won't eventually get someone you can understand.

You could try sending a message to them via their secure messaging service:

  • Send a message via your online account.

Or phone them and just state you wish to cancel the additional card that is on your account.

It's really not as difficult as you're making it out to be, and no, they won't compensate you for it either if that's what you're trying to get out of it in the long-run.

You could also just say you lost that card if it's difficult to cancel.

It is never a good idea to advise someone to lie. The OP could end up in deep water following this stupid advice.

Finding yourself with CIFAS fraud marker against your name.

    Being charged with fraud.

If you report a card lost, and transactions subsequently turn up on it, the provider will ask you to make a declaration that you (or your additional card holder) didn't make those transactions. You either have to commit fraud by signing to say you/they didn't, or tell them you miraculously found your card again - and if you do that the whole exercise has been completely futile.

They used to have a customer service team in Nottingham and I’m fairly sure they still have in office hours. Ask to be transferred to the UK?

A credit card I had was non contactless. I asked for a contactless card and they said I would have to wait for the current card expires.

Four weeks later I called to say I’d lost my card. The card with replaced with contactless.

    No CIFAS was added :rotfl::rotfl:

    Nonsense.

Once the card is reported as lost it'll just decline any future purchases.

Nobody was suggesting that the OP lie and say previous purchases were not authorised.
