  • I might be a little late to the party but i was just googling this because the exact same things happened to me and it might help someone else.

I was so confused when i received the notice of cancellation and i am a new driver so insurance was already expensive for me, having a cancelled insurance in my history would be a nightmare.

So i called them and they gave me the same answer, 'underwriters decided that i should not be insured' sooo i read the fine print on my terms and conditions and in there it states the the policy can be cancelled for 'ONLY' one of the reasons listed in there, however, this was not on my terms and conditions and i was kept on hold for 20 minutes. Then they returned and apologised and my policy was re-instated!

I just had to send documents proving my details.

Hope this helps someone and always make sure to read the T&C's.

I would not like to be in your shoes should you ever want to make a claim! T&C 's work both ways and insurance companies are experts in small print exclusions.
    Take care.

Far simply to be honest and truthfull at the outset. Postcode will influence the insurers decision whether to insure the risk and at what premium.

Sure a comparison site is by definition doing dummy quotes in order to prepare a list for you of potential insurers in price order?

I did ask them if I would have to declare this as a cancelled policy and the person I spoke to said he had checked with the underwriters and I would not. However, I can’t see this being true and do not trust them and I will cancel the policy myself before the 27th.
It is not for them to decide how other insurers will treat your policy cancellation. You should be declaring it and let the new insurer decide what they will do about it.

It doesnt matter now its reinstated in this case but for others reading, it may be useful.
The internet insurance business is full of cowboys, they will do all kinds of crazy stuff that flags innocent people up.

The UK is full of consumers who will do all kinds of crazy stuff that impacts on innocent people. Surveys have repeatedly found that most consumers are willing to commit insurance fraud.
They should really offer a facility to do dummy quotes. I was also thinking about if I could use GDPR to force them to disclose how they arrived at the quote they offered, i.e. force transparency in the hope of creating wider change.

No you can't use GDPR to do that. GDPR does not require commercial decisions to be detailed.
