Car insurance cancelled as multiple addresses used when looking at quotes.

If you have any worries use a neighbour's house number who annoys you!
I would be very very annoyed with an insurance company who cancelled my policy because some jackass was using my name and address
I really don't understand the logic of cancelling if you have used your own address but not if you have impersonated someone else as the outcome must be exactly the same if you are minded to behave fraudulently except the insurers would have no idea of what you are doing.0 -
This is much safer advice than Quentin's. A few years ago I used a comparison site to gather quotes on 3 prospective cars, with 2 different licence-held dates and keeping on the drive or on the road option. I used my own name and address but a couple of days later a dozen envelopes arrived on my mat, all from the same company; each contained written confirmation of the online quotes that I already held. If this company still markets that aggressively, then your victim may well notice that the new car appearing outside your home bears the same reg. no. as in the mystery paper quotes that they may well have received!DELETED USER wrote:I find that a real postcode but fake house number usually works fine. Put the house number in a 34b or something, since there isn't very likely to be a 34b.0 -

The operative word when doing dummy quotes online is "dummy"
Don't give out anything to identify you! Including your reg no!0 -
Surely the cost of car insurance is way down the list of reasons to move to a certain area, for me anyway.0

Someone mentioned that the insurers track IP adddress details.
How would that work if you used a public machine such as a library? AIUI the internal RFC IP address is NAT'd to a single public IP before going out of the private network to the ISP servers.
If a couple of people obtained legitimate quotes using library machines wouldn't they be flgged up as possibly fraudulent?0 -

The internet insurance business is full of cowboys, they will do all kinds of crazy stuff that flags innocent people up.
They should really offer a facility to do dummy quotes. I was also thinking about if I could use GDPR to force them to disclose how they arrived at the quote they offered, i.e. force transparency in the hope of creating wider change.0 -
Why did you only thank Quentin's post when it was just an endorsement of my own advice? It was only due to his shortcomings that I felt I had to provide it!DELETED USER wrote:

Quentin's post was far from an endorsement of your post
Quentin's post pointed out to you that a dummy quote should be just that!
If you input your reg no. then it's not a dummy quote!!
As you are worried about your thanks I am thanking your post #29 and hope others will do so for you!0 -
I always use house number a few doors down and a random name, keep all other details correct. When I'm ready to buy, clear cookies, enter correct details, job done.0
