Who owns "my" parking space

When I bought my property (a flat) in late 2015 it said in the advert that there was parking.
However, the EA said that there was no parking, and it was on the road parking. However, the block is a small one, at the end of a cul-de-sac, so there is plenty of off-road parking.
I’d lived there for around 6 months when I went to the bin (which is in the communal car park for a few houses round the estate) and noticed that the flat across from me had a parking space.
A little looking and I saw a parking space with my flat number on it…and it was empty. And empty it stayed. So, I started using it….that was well over 3 years ago now.
So, when buying the property, the conveyancing solicitor said he didn’t know who owns it.
I’ve since tried the council and property management company, and they don’t know either.
Any ideas who does own it? I guess I definitely don’t as I didn’t “pay” for it when buying the property?
(I think I can remember a map that the conveyancing solicitor showed me with no coloured in bits in the parking area).
Any advice?

Presumably you've checked your lease? And then land registry? and then asked the management company / freeholder?0
-
This is the response from the solicitor...
Further to your email of 30th November, the lease does not contain provision for a
parking space. No parking spaces marked on the Land Registry title plan which was
included with the report we sent to you....0 -
Ok. But has anyone checked who owns the land you're parking on, as that seems to be your question? Obviously we don't know.0
-
Ah right, so the solicitor says it's not me.... But didn't provide details of who owns it.... So if I contact the land registry, they should be able to advise?0

You can find out on the land registry website. You can navigate to the exact location of the parking space, click on it and pay £3 to find out who actually owns it.
You need to use the "aerial land locator" feature in their property search.0 -
As suggested, sign up for a free Nimbus Maps.
You can then see all of the title plans in the surrounding area and if the land is owned by a company you can usually see the owners name.0 -
The freeholder owns the parking space.
They may or may not lease it to you. It sounds as if they don't. So they may or may not lease it to somebody else. Whether or not it has a number that's the same as your flat number is irrelevant.0 -
The car park doesn't light up for any area (other than two spaces next to a house).
The freeholders don't know who own it either0 -
I just tried Nimbus and it's not very accurate for our shared areas. I suggest you use the Land Registry website search facility and pay your £3. You will find out who owns the land.0
