    Night - Day

    06/03/2019 - 57941 17462
    20/06/2019 - 59719 18218

Difference of 756 day and 1778 night between 06/03/2019 and 20/06/2019.

If these are both ACTUAL then day units at say 18P = £136; night at say 12p = £214 add s/c at 25p a day and VAT at 5% = nearly £400

    Sorry.

Cant access it right now but what i can say is the day rate was a bit higher than the estimate, and the night rate was lower. The difference between the day and night differences were in my favour that they lowered my direct debit from £150 p/m to £145. I think they estimated it based on the fact i was using storage heaters during the periods that i apparently accrued massive amounts of extra payments over my standard DD.

If there turns out to be no issue all i can say is storage heaters cost a FORTUNE (we only ever used 2 at half power on Fri/Sat/ evenings.

I made a spreadsheet (Coz thats what i always seem to do). The rates for me are 16.97p daytime 8.33p nighttime. Between 22/11 and 06/03 i apparently used £508 of electric, and between 06/03 and 20/06 £276.

That's fair enough - but please, please are these ACTUAL or ESTIMATED readings

All actual, only working with actual now. These are taken from my reading list from November (some are my readings some are the "meter readers").

I will be taking regular readings now and recording monthly ones on the 20th of each month to figure out how much electric i'm using each month according to the meter. Considering my huge £145 monthly DD is now based on how much they THINK i will use up until December and money to pay off previous energy costs my £81.50 did not cover its hard to say how much they are actually charging me for monthly usage so; this will be the best way to keep track of it.

Im expecting my DD to drop each month that i add a reading.

Thank you for clarifying the readings.. Your DD won't change every month - your supplier will revise the DD every 6 -months or (even yearly)

The cost of the energy used will reduce over the summer and your supplier will aim to have your account in credit before the winter.

Don't forget that your night usage - in addition to the storage heaters - also includes all your hot water.

I was thinking about the hot water last night. I did look at the tank and there is no control panel with the timings etc but im assuming at the moment that its on the same wiring as my storage heaters (these are pre-wired and come on between 12:30am and off at 8am from what ive tested in the past) but i always turn them off at the switch when not being used just incase.

Thanks for all the help; i think keeping my own records and regular readings will be key to figuring it all out :).

There should be two switches by the I/H or in the kitchen. The one labeled BOOST should be off and only used if you run out of hot water.

There is a switch in the kitchen, its like a light switch but has a red light above it. I've always just left it off but that's very possibly the boost then!

There is another dial in the lounge, its like a thermostat that goes between 0 and 30 degrees but i've never figured out what it even does...I mean it makes no difference to the water and its electric only storage heaters so does not affect the heating. I always just leave it at 0.

Pretty sure immersion isn't always on because eventually we run out of hot water after a washing up session in the evening.
