My partner has just admitted to stealing my ideny and ran up lots of money on credit cards and catalogues
They have gone to police themselves and admitted it
What do I do next ? Not sure yet whether to press charges or not

The fraud is against the lenders, rather than you.
The important thing is to provide the fraud details to the lenders so you don't get stuck with the debt.0 -

Give the details of the fraud to the lenders.
You can't press charges. That's up to the lenders.0 -

I hope he is now your ex-partner as well. Talk about the ultimate betrayal....I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly, and I can move and merge threads there. Any views are mine and not the official line of moneysavingexpert.com0 -
He's very unlikely to go to prison. However if you aren't doing everything you can to show it isn't your debt you may have difficulty stopping the lenders from pursuing you for it. Unfortuantely this is a situation where you need to look after yourself first.0
