  • What sort of mixer? Is it a food mixer or a sound mixer (or cement mixer)? If it is a sound mixer, the first thing that happens is that the mains voltage is converted to a lower voltage (typically 12V) and DC. If this is the case, you could probably swap out the USA power supply (and cord) for a UK version.

No can do im affraid the repair guy says it won't work. I tried the mixer (music) with a voltage adaptor from us to uk and it made a pop sound before turning itself off. Its going back via post today so no chance of fixing it. Not to worry i was hoping to find someone who is doing law on retrieving money back from either my credit card or ebay/paypal for the return postage.

I think if someone uses ebay to sell something and lies about it they should be liable for return costs if that is found to be true. When i rang the local police man he said it should be that way also. So who knows?

Distance selling regs generally mean you have to pay the return. SoGA doesn't (IIRC), so that's the route to go. The following is pure speculation as I'm not clued up on the SoGA or the Trading Standards processes.

Of course, I don't know how SoGA meshes with foriegn sellers. I'd imagine that they're subject to the law of the land where they sell, so as long as you didn't buy from eBay.com you should be okay on that score.

You'd need to prove that the problem was real. Taking the item with a statement from the repaier to your local Trading Standards might do the trick. You'd then need a letter from Trading Standards that you could send on to PayPal sating that SoGA applied in this case and that you should be refunded the entire amount including return postage. At this stage the seller would likely waive the return, otherwise he'd be out of pocket.

    Or something like that.

Distance Selling and SoGA don't apply to non-UK sellers.

Surely they must if that seller is operating within the UK (i.e. eBay.co.uk)?

EDIT: Just thought, of course not if they list it as located in the US!

Yep £77 is the cheapest it is a big item. I was quoted £90 with royal mail but i found www.interparcel.com which is online courier using ups.

Please please please make sure you take out the extra insurance with interparcel to cover the item. My first (and only) order with them has gone missing - was due to travel around 1000 miles but got lost in a depot 20 miles from my home! Had to wait a month on confirmation of loss and nows have to provide lots of receipts etc and only covered for £50. I am sure some orders go ok with them but if this one doesn't it would only add to your problems if not fully insured.
