I phoned hmrc and they said they are me 48 pounds from last year and will send a cheque out..
What is the time scale that I will receive the cheque?

  • Shouldn't take too long.
  • You should probably have the cheque by the end of June.

I'm due a cheque off hmrc, first you will get a letter stating what you are due then anytime after that the cheque will arrive, I've waited 10 days so far

I had 1120 plus interest sitting in my account with them.
Had no idea this money was there until I called up to make sure that my accountant had completed my taxes.
I was able to receive the money in my bank account within 7 days.

I don't have to wait for a letter because they have told me they owe me 48 pounds over the phone and they said they will issue me a cheque today over the phone..so hopefully by sat I should get it

The section of the HMRC website where you can normally enter your bank details for the refund says it can take several weeks for cheques to be issued.

The person you spoke to presses a button to get the cheque issued. they do not personally send out a cheque.

Your repayment will enter a queue to be issued and how long it will take will depend on how much work is in front of it to be done

That doesn't apply to the op as they have specifically asked HMRC to issue a cheque instead of claiming online.

I think the op is going to be disappointed when the postman/woman has delivered the post on Saturday but next Saturday is likely to be a different story.
so hopefully by sat I should get it
