Euronet or Telebanco for cash in Spain

in Credit cards
Hi
I’m on holiday in Spain with my Halifax Clarity credit card.
There are two ATMs in the resort- one run by Euronet and one by Telebanco. I’m struggling to work out the charges for cash withdrawals (ie what each will cost and which is cheapest) because I’m useless using the internet on my tiny phone!
Does anyone happen to know? Thanks in advance if so

When you put in your Clarity card, request a withdrawal and decline any Conversion offered by the machine, it will announce the fee that it will take (if any). You can accept or cancel.Evolution, not revolution0

Thank you, I didn’t know it would do that. Will try both and take it from there. Much appreciated0

If you are a regular to Spain (including Balearics) and/or Canaries the best debit card deal is to get a basic Santander Everday current account and make sure you deposit at least £500 monthly.
The funds don't need to lie in the account, they can be withdrawn or transferred immediately - nor does the £500 need to be paid in as a single payment, any combination of credits amounting to the £500 is OK.
Then you can withdraw Euros fee free at any Santander branded ATM or branch in Espana or Islas Canarias.0 -

I have read this before that Using Santander "debit card", you could do Cash Withdrawal from "Santander ATM in Spain" where you will get Visa Exchange rate with no ATM free.
IMO This will be the best way of cash withdrawal as Majority of ATMs in Spain have started charging fee for using their ATM for cash withdrawal. If it has not, it is just a matter of time before all of them will start charging fee.
Have you tried that recently and you get Visa Exchange rate with no ATM fee ??0 -
I was on vacation in Spain and had a problem with my credit card Santander bank when withdrawing money, so I recommend you choose another option, I had to make several calls and finesse and through webcam support chat with me they could solve, but it was a chaos, I was very dissatisfied0

We are fortunate enough to qualify for their Select account which is also fee free at their holes in the wall in some other countries, including the USA.
Happy to explain the details if that would be of interest.I was on vacation in Spain and had a problem with my credit card Santander bank when withdrawing money, so I recommend you choose another option, I had to make several calls and finesse and through webcam support chat with me they could solve, but it was a chaos, I was very dissatisfied
I don't have a Santander CC - however I believe their other other credit cards do attract fees for cash withdrawals, even at a Santander ATM.
We've never had a problem with Santander debit card when used under appropriate conditions.0 -

Thanks for the explanation I could see now that you have Santander Select. It attracts £5 monthly fee and there is a requirement to pay at least £5,000 a month. No wonder It is fee free in any country in the world where you could find Santander ATM, as Explained it here.
https://www.santander.co.uk/personal/current-accounts/select-current-account
But I believe not many people have this account.
Their previous product called “Santander Zero current account” (no longer available for new customer) is even better as you could use it in any cash machine in the world (not only Santander ATM) and it also does not attract fee as long as you pay £1,000 a month.
What I mean in my previous post is ordinary current account e.g Santander 123 Lite, Santander 123. I believe reasonable number of people have this account.
I have read somewhere (I have not tried it myself) that Using Santander "debit card", in Spain you could do Cash Withdrawal from "Santander ATM in Spain" where you will get Visa Exchange rate with no ATM fee.
The condition are
- Pay at least monthly £ 500 (e.g. the condition for Santander 123 Lite to get the perks)
- It has got to be used in Spain
- Is has to be used in Santander Cash Machine (not other bank cash machine)
Have you or anyone tried this where you get Visa Exchange rate and no ATM fee??NoodleDoodleMan wrote: »Was it a Santander Zero credit card ? Did you use it at a Santander branded ATM ?
If it is "Santander Zero creditcard" it should be fee anywhere in the world, not just in Spain. But there is interest from the day the transaction appear in the account. Depeding in the country and the Bank ATM there might be ATM fee for using their ATM.0 -

It is, in effect, an upgraded Santander 1-2-3 current account, paying the same interest up to £20,000 balance, giving same cashback on qualfying direct debits, and charging same £5 monthly fee.
We had the regular 1-2-3 account anyway, and separate £5000 odds in savings in a Club Lloyds current account - just a case of transferring between the two by monthly standing order to satisfy the respective paying in conditions.
Now, here's the misleading bit - you don't need a monthly income of £5K from salary to meet the Santander minimum - any source, other than an internal transfer, does the business.
That apart, a basic Santander Everyday current account, with £500 paid in monthly ticks the necessary boxes - that's the one we use on holidays in Spain and the Canaries. No need for any direct debits on the account either.
I believe this will apply to the other Santander current account offerings like 1-2-3 and 1-2-3 Lite, I'd need to trawl through the TS&Cs to be certain though. They need at least 2 DDs if memory serves
Apologies - you are right about the Zero credit card, I don't have one, so am not up to speed.0 -
Also please be aware that Santander bank have now merged with Eurobank and that some Santander branded atms are old Eurobank ones and you may get charged using it with your 123 card. These are mainly isolated and remote ones (shopping malls small stores etc) NOT Santander branches. I got caught out by one in Spain. I complained and received a refund of the charges. To be sure use only atms at Santander branches.0

My undersatnding here is that if someone is using his Debitcard linked to Santander 123, Santander 123 lite in Spain in Santader owned Cash machine, given that
- They keep paying at least £500 amonth into the account
- They have 2 DD (?) set up in the account
They will not get charged for ATM fee and get Visa Exchange rate. Is my understanding correct ??0
