    It should do yes.

But why would you want to do that?
You are correct. In terms of taking back control it makes no sense.

So my next statement on 24 August should say the same.

I had a balance of £0.00 in July, so in effect no statement was produced. But have since done some spending amounting to £1172.66. The 24 August statement should show £1172.66 as the balance.

If I pay £1000.00 by debit card 3 working days before the next payment due date, would the DD payment be automatically adjusted to take only £172.66?

Anyone have any experience with this scenario? THe letter I received does say:
Update: My august statement balance was indeed £1172.66. I made manual payments to make a total of £1167.66:

    14 Sep 2019 - £600.00
    15 Sep 2019 - £362.66
    15 Sep 2019 - £200.00
    16 Sep 2019 - £5.00

On 19 Sep 2019 a DD payment for £5.00 was collected. So I effectively cleared my statemented balance.
