How to recycle old router et al?

Must be a common issue when you get a new router from new provider. You'd think it should be a compulsory service for former providers to recycle them free.No convenient council facility near me to do this at.

I usually sell on eBay. Some can be used as extenders.

Most ISP will have information on their websites about returning their old routers for free disposal under the WEEE Legislation. However they don't have to offer free postage for you to return said item.

I've been using the same modem and same router for many years.

It's all these manic switchers contributing to plastic waste, pollution and landfill :(

You don't have a choice if it's Sky ADSL, they lock you to their own router.

Freegle / Freecycle / Trashnothing & all the rest.
Put it on Gumtree or Preloved as a 'Free' item.
Plenty of people can find a use for them.

Some ISP work with another router. BT/Plusnet work so do nowtv and sky (iirc?)

Many decent routers can be reconfigured to act as repeater or extenders for wifi.
